Hi everyone,

I'm a 19 year old, art student from liverpool, england. Up until recently, I thought I knew quite a lot about world history and politics and what not but as it turns out, I know nothing. Or at least, nowhere near as much as I'd like to.

I some how stumbled upon this forum whilst googling something and how glad I am for it. I'm hoping to do a lot of learning and discussing topics with likeminded people. Which, for me, doesn't happen often enough.

Anyway, I look forward to talking with people :D

Hello!

So what is your poison?... politically that is because you better like lager otherwise... or vodka... maybe some form of spirit. Not sure what is in the cellar to be honest. Heck, I'm not sure if I have a cellar!

Hi Arie, nice to see a Liverpudlian finding their way in here! :) Do you need help adding a tendency (if you want to add one), as some have found it tricky (me included) when new?

I might try... uhh... photographing some amanitas soon,, just because they're so easy to get. A friend of a friend of mine also likes those other kinds, but can't think of a way to say it without it pissing certain people of a moderative persuasion off.

Anywho, OP, what sort of art do you study? If you ever want to argue about Jorn or Adorno or Poe or anything artsy, I'd love to.

That would be great if you could help me out with adding one, I've no idea how you go about doing it haha.

At the minute is pretty much a general art course. They get you to try out a range of things and then you decide what it is you want to specialise in. I'm going to go to uni and do fine art but I'd also quite like to be a potter. Yeah, I'd love to have a discussion about art and what not :)

To add a main tendency, go to the group page, scroll down to where the group's forum begins, click the drop down box "group tools" and click "set as primary tendency". I didn't know how until I saw it explained to someone else.

If you go the potter route, I'd check out the Imaginist Bauhaus. They were opposed to doing pottery or architecture or whatever for just productivist reasons. Rather they subscribed to Jorn's dialectical theory of art: that art is not just an object but a means of subjective communication. One example is Pinot-Gallizio's Antimatter Cavern, huge lengths of canvas that were meant to cover the walls of entire rooms to create an atmosphere which evokes whatever the artist was trying to communicate.

Another is Jorn's Modifications, which my avatar is from. He took a kitschy commodity and forced it to be subjective, in a very simple way, by using the horizon as a smile for a new image.

Just so I know I'm googling the right person, does Jorn refer to Asger Jorn? I'll go and check out the imaginist bauhaus. It's always useful to look at a variety of different artists and experiment, so cheers for that

Yup, Asger Jorn. Some of his writings might be tricky to find, I'm working on making an archive of them that'll probably go online in a month or two.
