Would someone please tell me how people live in Cuba? I've heard that everyone has free education system and free healthcare but salary is very low. Some people say that salary is really too low and some people say that it's low but you can live with it because you have free almost everything. Like nobody really starves. Of course it depends really much on a viewpoint...
How does Castro live? I've heard he lives in a big palace or something.
Does anyone know a website or something?

well, I read that it is true, but the book was made in 1968, so the situation may be different now?

Castro does NOT live in a palace, thats just counterrevolutionary propaganda to try and discredit castro and the cuban government. Its true that the wages are lower than some countries, but compared to many other third world nations the average wage in cuba is higher. you have to keep in mind that almost everyone owns the house they live in, so the cuban people dont have to pay rent, and healthcare and education are free. the cost of food in cuba is very low as well. so generally the cost of living in cuba is substantially lower compared to may other countries, so therefore high wages aren't necessary. High wages are only necessary in countries that have a high cost of living. some good cuba websites that i know of include: www.granma.cu www.cubaminrex.cu www.antiterroristas.cu hope this helps :D

Not trying to be opinionated , but my new friend from Cuba in my uni. says that " ...the fact is everyone thinks one Fidel is not enough" ~
Social progress from the Batista era is a big laep. Though people have cheap wages, but they live contendedly and happily. Fuck u.S. gov't making false claims on this island.
so.. you can reassure yourself, comrade Anastacia~ ;)

Cuba's the shit. Most of the shit that has been said about cuba is a bunch of lies. I have seen it with my own eyes and can tell you that its not bad down there.
Yes, they do have free health care and education. Their health care is one of the best around. They practice "preventive" medicine rather than what the us does, which is "curative" medicine (which is done to make money). If you really want to know more about cubas health policies i suggest a book such as "Healing the Masses." It tells you everything you need to know about cubas health policies and how it works, why they have the lowest HIV/AIDS rates, health programs, etc.
Cuba obviously has running water. The thing is that it doesnt come out like in other places, know what i mean? It doesnt come out in a strong stream or in large quantities like in other countries. Personally i think its a good idea- saves water.
As for their wages- no need to have a larger salary when you have everything you need: free health care and free education. They are very well taken care of in cuba.
As for education: education down there is fabulous. They take it very seriously, especially for the young kids (who are the future of the revolution). The classes consist of P.E., hygene, history, etc. They also have great literacy programs, which have been very successful. They have like a 98 or 99% literacy rate, which is actually higher than the U.S.'s

It seems that Cuba has a good economical situation for the countries's conditions, and there are some good social achievements, but it still needs big improvements on the political system and some social things.

The other day i suggested that my Spanish class take a summer trip to Cuba. (foreign language classes at my school take trips some summers to a country wich speaks the language) An apparently really stupid girl said "I don't want to slepp on dirt!!" Apparently she had no idea that Cuba's most lucrative industry is tourism.

Thank you comrades.

I've read that, too in a book written in 1969 but nowadays I've heard that the healthcare actually is very bad.

Does someone know in where he lives then? And what is his salary?

castro moves from house to house to avoid any assassination attempts (it seems to have worked so far) and there is a maximum that any one person can get paid in cuba, so he probably doesnt get paid much more than most of the workers.
