Voina (itterally meaning war) is a group of politically charged performance artist who have gained widespread fame and notoriety for attacking the state, religion and homophobia through criticism in their work.

Last summer they took on the FSB in Leningrad for arresting several members who are now in jail (two of which for tipping over a police car with two sleeping cops.)

They painted a large penis on a birdge right acros the FSB headquarters. :) Really sticking it to the FSB....because everytime the bridge is raised....the penis will come up.

And now they won a price for this work :-) 10.000 euro´s which will go to the legal funds...for their work.

If you are easilly offended by drawings of penisses do not open spoiler. also...not sure if this is SFW.

How is a conveyor belt paedophilic?

Anyway, art is art, but I am not a fan of the artists work. I was daring and I am no prude, I just found it a little uninspired , all things considered. Seems a bit of a waste. It should be more political. I know what they are trying to say, at least I think so, I just think they could have done it in a more imaginative way.

Agreed. They could've thought of something more creative tbh...

Yeah. And I am sure we have seen something like this many times before. Maybe not on the same scale or structure, but giant penises are not too original by this point, and it seems more like a publicity stunt than an actual protest.

I love that place, but nothing beats Stalinland, Bonbonland or 'Diggerland'.

Cracked.com ftw. And I don't understand how they can have Stalinland without Karl Marx? WTF?

USSRland sounds interesting though.

Yeah, I saw it on cracked first too. Both Stalinland and USSRland are in Lithuania aren't they?

I think Stalinland doesn't have Marx because they are recycled statues from the Soviet days, when they used to make more statues of the revolutionaries from Russia, specifically the leaders, rather than of Marx. But I would have thought that there would have been at least one Marx in Stalinland.

That's what I thought too! And I loved Cracked's reasoning why "Apparently none of their sculptors could do fluffy beards." Lithuanians have a strange affinity for communist-themed amusement parks? O_o. Still think it would be interesting to go to USSR-land =]

Yeah, it is pretty interesting. I think Lithuania retains a sort of fondness for the Soviet years. ;)

Did they get the most preferential treatment out of the Baltic states? They were the ones who wanted out first.

They did indeed. Soviet era investment in the Baltic states was the highest in the union, and the development level the highest, etc.
