Massive anti-Israel rally held in Cairo
April 8, 2011
Over one million Egyptian protesters in Cairo’s Liberation square have demanded their military rulers to abandon Israel and lift the blockade on the besieged Gaza strip.
Protesters voiced their anger at Tel Aviv by burning the Israeli flag and demanding the Liberation of Palestine, a Press TV correspondent said.
They promised to stand by Gazans, who have been suffering Israeli attacks and its four-year long crippling siege.
Many protesters headed toward the US Embassy from Liberation Square to protest Israel’s deadly attacks on Gaza.
The Israeli flag was torn to pieces, when protesters tried to raise Palestinian flag above the Israeli embassy.
The development comes two months after a historic revolution ousted President Hosni Mubarak.
Protesters also demanded the prosecution of officials belonging to the former regime –mainly the ousted president Mubarak and his family.
Egypt’s toppled regime under Mubarak served the interests of Israel by assisting and keeping silent on the killing of Gazans.
Egypt has imposed a blockade on Gaza since the democratically elected Hamas government took control of the territory in 2007. Since then Israel has imposed a crippling blockade on the territory triggering a humanitarian crisis.
A major Egyptian political party, the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), has recently demanded that the country’s Supreme Council of the Armed Forces takes action in breaking the siege of Gaza.
Egypt’s political parties say the Gaza blockade serves the interests of Israel and the US and threatens regional stability and independence.
This is while Israeli officials have been repeatedly threatening to launch a fresh major offensive against Gaza.
They say such an onslaught could be even more destructive and deadly than the one at the turn of 2009, which killed over 1,400 Palestinians — many of them women and children.

oh dear....
now you have done it
while i'm sure there was some anti-israel sentiment at the protest (when isnt there in that region?) this protest was not an anti-israel rally.
these people demonstrated to speed up the transition to an civilian government and the prosecution of the old regime.
this hack piece of iranian state TV propaganda is again all the proof i need that, no matter how faulty at times, i'll take AlJazeera and the Guardian over your crap sources.

So you were there Psycho, or are you just speaking out your ass like usual? I would say the rally consisted of many demands - one being that against Israel's terrorist strikes against those in Gaza.

The article itself doesn't present any error in journalism. The article goes into protesters burning the Israeli flag, demanding justice for those in Gaza, the prosecution of those officials remaining from the original regime, etc. It seems like a decent article, and written with more around the purpose of a certain section of protester demands towards Israel.
If the title proclaimed "Over 1 million Egyptians make their demands" then went on to mostly talk about Israel's terrorist strikes on Gaza, then I'd called it a piece of shit piece, riddled in the State of Iran's bias. But, instead, the article proclaims to a section of the demands, while also mentioning other demands as well within the article.

Thanks Vegan Marxist for such a wonderful post,
In one interview I saw in BBC a senior leader of Muslim Brotherhood did vent his anger over Israel , and in another interview in CNN I saw the Israeli PM showing his concern over MB coming to power in Egypt , I think the opinions of both this leader clearly shows the true ground reality, besides historically speaking Egypt is a natural opponent of Israel. The picture you posted above clearly shows the ground reality, the anti-Israeli protest really had some support behind it.

Why are you an anti-dutch racist?
I kid of course.
While PressTV hardly is my preferred source either I am aware of the pro-palestinian sentiement. I hope that this does not boost the discredited a and petit-bourgeois Muslim Brotherhood politically, but even so a break on siege of Gaza would be more than welcome. The border was actually open a couple of times quite recently.

The article itself doesn't present any error in journalism.
yes it does, it takes one of the minor topic of an hugh demonstration and presents it as the dominant one. and it does so for obvious reasons.
i never denied that solidarity with gaza was among the topics. but if you cant see that the article you posted is the worst of the worst hack-pseudo journalism that would put FOX to shame there is no hope you ever will...

Don't understand why psycho is arguing to be honest.
The reason psycho's arguing is because the protest was held for a completly different reason than that article claims.
From Al-Jazeera.
"Tens of thousands of protesters had flooded into the square on Friday in one of the largest demonstrations since Mubarak stepped down on February 11.
The protesters called for the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which nows runs the country, to honour their demands, which include prosecuting a number of former high-ranking regime officials and Mubarak himself."
It's turned pretty violent.
