View Full Version : New Supremacy 1914 Match: Komintern vs. Entente

Nuvem
5th April 2011, 22:18
Hey everyone, I'd like to invite the Revleft community to join in on a match of Supremacy 1914, a political/military strategy game based on World War I. It's a simple browser game, all you need is to create a free profile and have Java installed on your computer to play it. Specifically I'm looking to start up a Roleplaying match, meaning the various players will be using the Daily European (the in-game newspaper in which you can post articles, declarations, etc.) and private messages/telegrams to play out the role of your national leader and/or members of your governmental administration.
A link to the website:http://www.supremacy1914.com/index.php?id=78 (http://www.anonym.to/?http://www.supremacy1914.com/index.php?id=78)

Elaboration just for OI: I'm not getting much enthusiasm from the rest of the forum now that the Komintern is filled out, so we need some imperialists and reactionaries in here! Step right up and reserve your Entente or neutral nation, inmates.
The Setup
We're going to be working with a somewhat altered timeline, so elaboration is in order. Don't worry, we're not mangling history here- just a little "what if". It's 1917, one of the most pivotal years in shaping the path of the 20th century. The trench war deadlock has remained at a standstill and the USA has not seen fit to get involved in the war, with its historical policy of isolationism standing firm. The war has gone miserably for Russia and after many months of retreats and failures, lack of ammunition and rations, the soldiers of the Imperial Army abandoned their posts and joined the workers in the streets of Petrograd and Moscow, with the majority throwing their lot in with the rising Bolshevik movement and calling for an end to the disastrous war. This upsurge of support gave the Bolsheviki the support they needed to push the impotent post-Monarchist provisional government of Alexander Kerensky out of power and with cries of "All power to the Soviets", the Bolsheviki, led by Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, "Lenin", have formed a government based on a central platform upheld by the legislation of the "Soviets", councils of workers, soldiers and peasants. This new union, the Russian Soviet Federation of Socialist Republics, sought first and foremost to fold its part in the Great War. The anti-Communist Finnish people split from Russia during the revolution, seeking to found their own state which is at this time more or less a puppet of Denmark, their primary base of financial and military support.

In Germany and Austria-Hungary, the story is much the same as working people and soldiers all across both nations grow outraged with the conditions created by the Imperial war being waged primarily by the Monarchist powers of Europe. On the frontlines they tire of mud, dust, rats and razor wire; in the cities, they tire of shortages, unfit working conditions and, of course, the losses of their mother's sons. Riding a wave of revolutionary enthusiasm beginning in Russia, the formerly underground Communist parties of Germany and Austria-Hungary began operating openly with mass popular support. After numerous attempted crackdowns by Kaiser Wilhelm II and Emperor Charles I, it became entirely clear that the police forces could not overcome the hundreds of thousands of people who flooded the streets in uproar, nor could the military be redirected from the frontlines to contain the crisis without giving the French or Italians exactly the opening they had been waiting for. Caught between these two forces, the leadership of the two remaining Central Powers floundered as day by day the demonstrators armed themselves, smashing into arms factories and forming Red Guards who began to seize control of the cities one by one until at last Vienna, Buda-Pest and Berlin were under Communist control, the monarchies smashed, the Kaiser and Emperor executed. With this whirlwind of revolutionary fervor, the Monarchist 'White Army' never takes hold in Russia for lack of foreign aid and is suppressed in its formative days, as is the Anarchist 'Black Army' in the Ukraine. The new powers of the east enter hasty negotiations concluding with an iron-clad alliance between the three.

Stunned and confused, the western world was thrown entirely off guard. While the Monarchies and representative republics were wholely offended by the Marxists who had now seized power in the name of the working classes in eastern Europe, they were faced with the stark and frightening possibility that their own people may get the same idea if the war was continued, especially now that the governments and states upon which they had originally declared war were dismantled. Rather than continue the war against these new and closely-linked political organs, the remaining Allied powers- Great Britain, France and Italy- decided to declare a formal ceasefire on the grounds that the national leadership and identity of each nation had changed and opened talks with all three, who had now claimed the title of "Komintern"- the Communist International. Both sides of the field ultimately refused to compromise. The Komintern refused to open markets or trade with the west, who summarily abstained from any further discussion. It had become markedly clear for both sides of this new conflict that no resolution between the two was to be met, as they represented opposite faces of the political coin. While the west has been tolerant of the newly organized Socialist republics, they grow wary of their intentions, especially of the possibility of the funding and support of further international revolutions- certainly, Communist parties all across Europe have grown exponentially more active. Principally opposed as the two political forces are, it seems unlikely that the short-lived peace will continue indefinitely.

OOC Info
If you've read this far and still have an interest, you're probably what I'm looking for. I need active role players who will be ready to participate actively in both the military aspects and political intrigue of the scenario. Some basic bullet-point rules to remember for this match:

-Speak up! Post in the Daily European with an In-character article at least once every other day, and communicate in private messages often. Contribute your voice to what's going on, and do it with seriousness! Put your best literary voice forward. Not everyone can be Shakespeare, but do your very best.

-WTF Y U INVADIN ME BRAH?! This match is going to have a lot of political intrigue involved. The AI is elite, and therefore nothing to scoff at. If you invade ANY country whether human controlled or AI, you'd better have a damn good in-character reasons that you've established via the Daily European or in some way openly communicated. This goes double for Russia, Germany and Austria-Hungary, who must attempt to adhere to Marxist anti-Imperialist principles, meaning you will meet serious consequences if you wage imperial wars against neutral AI or neutral countries without valid reasoning. Claiming that an AI nation somehow wronged you in some way (terrorist acts, attempted assassinations, border disputes, etc.) will not be considered legitimate cause.

-Zombie Robot Furries from the Future No absurdity. Throughout the course of the Rp, it's acceptable for you to undergo a leadership change (especially if you are playing as a neutral power), but it MUST be period appropriate. Later I will detail the national leaders and ruling parties for each aligned nation, which must be adhered to. Please, keep your profile photos relegated to real-world figures from the period (preferably black and white), and flags must be kept period appropriate as well.

-Gold...Marx. As stated initially, this is a goldmark match, so you will need at least 5,000 Goldmark to join. There is no rank requirement. Elite AI, Additional Units, Domination, Nation Selection and Free Teams are in place. Game will not start until full!

-"Freedom yes, but for WHOM, and to do WHAT?" Nation Selection and Free Teams are activated, but nations are on a reservation basis and players will be given the password and allowed to enter and select their nation one at a time. The teams are set in stone and it will be the player's responsibility to join the proper team if the match is to progress properly.

-And how is that pronounced, exactly...? Change your screen name to that of your national leader in-game. Simple as that.

-OOC/IC Distinction OOC or "Out of character" text is when YOU are speaking. IC or "in character" text is when your national leader or some other character within the government of your nation (or the editor or contributor of DE, if you're writing an anonymous article) is speaking. There is an important distinction between the two and they shouldn't be mixed. IC text should always be from the perspective of a person living in the setting described, who knows nothing about anything that would occur post-1917 or in any way outside of the scenario. I.E., if you are talking about Stalinist purges IC you're doing it wrong, as Stalin is still a very minor figure in the Bolshevik party at this time. For OOC conversation, keep it to private messages and use (( )) or [ ] to indicate out of character speech. For example: ((blah blah blah)) or [blah blah blah] indicates that you are saying "blah", while simply saying it without brackets would mean it's your national leader or some kind of diplomat or dignitary representing your nation. If there are any questions regarding this, please feel free to PM me about it.

National Info
The various nations have differing standings in the current European situation- here I present an alphabetic listing of the nations, their standing and rules regarding playing them. Nations with altered leaders should use the photos as reference, you may use the given photos or different photos of the same person. For Komintern nations, use flag given below!

Austria-Hungary
In this timeline, the citizens of Austria-Hungary have risen up in revolution not two months ago and the Communist Party of Austria-Hungary now strives to unite the many ethnicities of the region to join the common goal of striving for a socialist economy and, ultimately, a stateless, classless, moneyless, communal society (though this is a goal many, many years away). For now, they are still struggling to find their footing and a central government to mitigate matters between the many local councils of workers, peasants and soldiers (similar to the Soviets in Russia) is in creation. The head of state is Kun Béla, a Hungarian Communist, aged 31. Originally he was a soldier for Austria-Hungary, but after being captured by Russians and being sent to a POW camp in Ural became a Communist. He learned Russian and personally met Vladimir Lenin and many of the Bolsheviki. He personally fought in the Russian Revolution and later the Russian Civil War (which does not occur in this timeline). After the revolution he returned to Hungary and (in this timeline) found himself quickly rocketed to the position of Chair of the unified Communist Party of Austria-Hungary. He has ideological differences with Lenin, generally considering himself less authoritarian, but the difference should not be considered serious enough to impede an alliance with the Bolsheviki given the circumstances; he simply has a different way of doing things. Info on him can be found here, keep in mind much of it doesn't have a bearing in this alternate timeline, especially everything after 1917:

France
France is currently led by Raymond Poincaré, by all accounts a rather conservative leader who has served as Prime Minister in the past and now serves as President of France. He took a strongly anti-German stance before and during the War and was key in securing Russia's entry into the Entente, but now both stances are broken by the new leadership of both nations. While he would undoubtedly take no less issue with the new Marxist leadership of Germany than he did with the Monarchy, the reasons are now very different as the struggle is now an ideological one rather than a nationalistic one. His first and foremost concern is maintaining the social stability of France to ensure that no Communist barbarians seize power under his watch, followed by maintaining good relations with Great Britain and Italy. To lose the Entente now to in-fighting could mean the death of his very way of life, as well as the entire legacy of western Europe.

Germany
Germany is in a situation much the same as Austria-Hungary in that things are still in a state of flux. The Communist Party of Germany was better prepared than the Austro-Hungarian Communists, but the situation is still a difficult one. The shattered economy has to be repaired and altered to fit a Marxist line, and aggression from the West is as always a very serious possibility. Rosa Luxemburg, a woman aged 46 of Polish descent who became a German citizen and was a prominent theoretician, economist and politician. She leads the Communist Party of Germany and by extension is effectively acting as the national leader, although she refuses to act as the official head of state and wishes to delegate most responsibilities to local councils for ideological reasons. She has had a long-standing intellectual rivalry with Lenin, but it's one of detail and the two ultimately support one another even while their methods differ slightly. Their ultimate goals and primary opposition remain the same.

Great Britain
King George V leads Great Britain in this time, a man historically fated to be the last of the British Monarchs with true political power. An obvious anti-Communist, his agenda is much the same as President Poincare's; he must ensure that there is no uprising by the Communists in his own nation and prepare for the future complications which will arise from the new ideological tensions being formed in Europe between the east and west. Since he is the default national leader, photograph and flag info are not necessary.

Italy
Italy is in the strange position of being a nation in flux. It's former hard-line right wing leadership (their former leaders would go on to support Mussolini's rise in 1922) has been replaced by the moderately progressive administration of Prime Minister Vittorio Orlando, a curious figure who in his demeanor may appear wishy-washy, but is firm in his standing. Accusations that he has ties to the Sicilian Mafia hold far more truth than mere rumors. Still, although he is the odd man out and Italy is a newcomer to the Entente (a former member of the Central Powers), his goals remain very similar- he must prevent Communist influence in Italy, and he must decide on a proper stance in regards to them internationally- all, of course, while maintaining good relations with the rest of the Entente.

Morocco
Having recently split from Spain, Morocco is now an independent Sultanate. Despite the severity of the goings on in Europe, it is in no shape to be interfering in foreign matters at present and will be effectively sitting this match out as an AI controlled nation.

Ottoman Empire
Due to devastation from the War and political in-fighting, the Ottoman Empire will be sitting this crisis out as well and will be AI controlled.

Russia/RSFSR
As has already been stated, Russia was the first to experience Communist revolution and is presently led by the Bolshevik party with Vladimir Lenin acting as the head of state. It is a critical element of the Komintern and naturally its founding nation. It faces the same challenges as Germany and Austria-Hungary.

Spain
Rey Alfonso XIII has been King of Spain since 1886. There has been a great ebb and flow to the Spanish nation, but throughout the years they have stood strong against many challenges. In the Great War Spain was neutral and gained wealth by trading to both sides of the conflict, but were later crippled by an outbreak of the Spanish Flu which killed millions. The nation is now in debt, having had to import goods due to a slowdown in production caused by the outbreak. They remain a neutral nation for the time being, standing definitively neither with nor against either faction, though it's certainly clear that the Monarchy would stand against the Communist movement of the east at least ideologically. However, the Spanish working class is growing evidently more radical and several uprisings have been repressed in the last decade. As a neutral nation in the face of a great struggle to come, Spain will be under great diplomatic pressure to take a side in the ideological partitioning of Europe.

Sweden
Gustav V of Sweden is in a very difficult position. Having been neutral during the Great War, he is faced now with a potentially even greater crisis. There is great internal pressure in Sweden to parliamentarize the government and to remove the royal family from power, mostly being pushed forward by Socialist trade unions with strong backing from the Communist Party of Sweden. Protestors and demonstrators have begun to rally in the streets of major cities much as they did early in the struggles in Russia, Germany and Austria-Hungary. Though they have not yet armed themselves or begun seizing territory, the demonstrations grow larger by the week and ever more organized. His position as monarch of Sweden is threatened, as is his way of life- and perhaps even his life itself! The Swedish monarchy will be under considerable pressure from the West to crack down on demonstrators and run the Communists underground, while support for the Swedish trade unionists and Communists will be given from the East, which will aim to support a fourth European revolution. The success of either faction could very well determine the outcome of the conflict.

Bump of all bumps. We need someone for Britain and Sweden, both of which will be very interesting roles to play. We also need a couple of people who have signed up to get into the game, throw me a private message if you didn't get the password yet. Let's get this game started!

The Ottoman Empire is sitting this match out, I'm afraid. 10 nations are just too much for carefully organized matches like this (taken us a week to start the damn thing as it is) and Morocco and OE would unbalance the scenario considerably.

Sorry Gallowsbird, we already have someone for Sweden. ROSTER UPDATE!

If anyone is interested in taking a crack at the UK, be my guest. Everyone who's already in the game should know that it will soon start, PLEASE review scenario info. We need Spain to return to its original flag and leadership at least for the time being, and we need Italy to adopt the proper leader listed above. Aside from that, we're good to go once we get someone for Great Britain. Let's get this show on the road, it's gonna be a hell of a match!

No, we're keeping to historical people, leadership and nations as far as we can. Please follow the guidelines above. Don't worry, you're free to change leadership and your flag later on, just develop a regime change over time. This could also hinge heavily on whether you choose to side with the Entente or Komintern.

Am I the only one not being able to log-in today? Oh, are we going to have to wait until 1918 for the Tsar to be executed or are we going to do it sooner? I know we have executed the Kaisers of Germany and Austria-Hungary already.
