ANGRY prison officers in Birmingham stopped work for the second time in two days sparking fears of a series of wildcat strikes at jails across the country.

Members of the Prison Officers Association (POA) left their posts at lunchtime for an hour to stage a meeting in protest at the Governments decision to hand over the running of the Winson Green jail to private firm G4S.

Union leaders will gather again on Tuesday to decide on their next step in the dispute.

A POA spokesman in Birmingham said: We are exploring all avenues and if we need to break the law, we will break the law.

Strikes by prison officers are unlawful but staff at every prison in the UK stopped working without an official order from the POA.

There's something ironic about prison wardens breaking the law....

But at least they're standing up against the Tory scumbags. The company that wants to take over has a long history of human rights abuses.

Is not the case that prison officers, like cops and school teachers, are agents of bourgeois state repression?

Perhaps a bit of a "grey area". I'm not sure.

Some of them are, and when they are not they become subject to those agents who are the state repression and bourgeois, they ask alot of questions and usually in the form of boring sod women, acting as though they are to counsel you. They are in the end a big fat waste of time.

Always fight.

If any grey area exist it is because an honest worker believes in honest pay, those moles who report to the state are in essence, in the way of progress, they are mules to propaganda that has strongly affected them.

Interesting thing nearly happened early this year in Wisconsin, USA. The new governor, Scott Walker, was pushing a bill through that would require all state employees to give up their collective bargaining rights and pay more into their benefits, resulting in a 9% paycut. There were rumors that the prison guards were going to walk out, so the Federal Guard was put on standby to come in and take over the prisons. The strikes would also have been illegal.
