Well,

This is all a bit scetchy. But...it seems Anonymous has been attacking and DDOS-ing Sony...amongst which PSN for the last two days.

They do this because Sony is trying to acquire IP adresses of users who have jailbroken their PS. THis is their warning.

Now...in itself this is interesting to a certain limited degree....if it were not for the fact that they currently managed to disable the entire PSNetwork for the largest part of the world. Making the PSnetworks inaccessible for most users.

It seems, as far as I can reconstruct, the attacks started in the US on the 3rd of April and quickly spread to the UK and mainland Europe on the 4th. As of now the attacks are on going but Sony, or a least somebody, is fighting back and knocked out some channels which executed the attacks.

Sony has so far remained silent on why the servers are not accessable. Leaving many users to wonder what the hell is happening and why tehy can not get access to the online community through their PS. And until several hours ago had not updates their SCE sites.

But they manage to hit sony where it hurts. $$$. The store is closed and inaccessible. It also directly impacts many users. Which may be detrimental to the image of Anonymous.

I wonder if we are going to read about it anywhere soon.

Any thoughts?

ah...Sony has released a statement saying PSN is undergoing sporadic maintenance. And apologizes for the inconvenience.

Today the DDOS attacks started in Europe and backtraced again to Northern US.

Sony's programmers were so fucking bad that people like Geohot had to hack into Sony's servers to make it better. And what does Sony do? Sue him. So I'm 100% behind Anonymous' campaign against Sony!

It`s a bit more complex than that. Geohot started openly giving away PS3 master keys on his website and got his ass busted. He could`ve anonymously uploaded them everywhere on the internet and Sony would never have found out who was behind it, but Geohot being a little attention whore went for the fame instead.

That not the complex part. THe part where sony then proceeded to sue to acquire all IP adresses from anybody who ever visited the Youtube and other accounts of Geohotz and a few others...they were granted acces and have indeed acquired all those IP adresses.

Its weird because Anon has a shit ton of links to child porn. Im torn, its hilarious that they play epic music and grew out of basementdwellers and call themselves "legion" but actually are making things happen.

Yeah there are a lot of sickos in that movement, but there seem to be some with quite clear and rational activists, bordering on anti-capitalist views. I wouldn't identify with them personally, its interesting to see online tactics being used in activism though. Its something the left should observe for sure, given that the online world is important to capitalism nowadays.

Hackers usually are basement dwellers. With anon I get the impression that there are a few nucleus of productivity, apolitical ones, and a lot of people just going with the flow.

Anticapitalist elements aren't seen positively.

Firstly, Anon is not a close group. So everyone who feels retaliated but sad because their line is not as clear as he would like to be, he can find some friends and start joining in order to influence. The basic principles are already very progressive and anti totalitarian.

As far as Sony goes, Sony is a company who is built on stealing and copying from others, selling products cheaper. So fuck em anyways.

I thought Anon turned in a few people who came to them looking for child pr0n.
