The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine responded to the attack on student protesters in Manara Square in Ramallah on March 30, 2011, demanding that the Palestinian Authority bear its political and moral responsibility and respect the law and Palestinian national values, and end its collusion in repeated assaults on youth protesters in the Square demanding an end to the division, confrontation of the occupation, and Palestinian democracy.

The attackers destroyed the protesters' tent and cameras and tore down their banners while police and security forces in the square kept quiet and simply observed the attack, illustrating their collusion, recklessness and utter disregard of their responsibility to protect the people. Their inaction and collusion has potential for dire consequences for the national situation. The Front demanded all national Palestinian forces to condemn this reckless act, prosecute the perpetrators and those responsible for the attack or collaborated in it, and activate legal and judicial organizations to demand accountability in order to stop attacks of this sort which are attacks on the fundamental Palestinian national and moral rights and freedoms. Such attacks serve only the enemies of our people and their plans to fragment the Palestinian cause and compromise our rights.

A group of youth activists erected the protest thent on March 15, standing for Palestinian unity and an end to occupation. Since March 15 they have been harassed, their tent torn and books burned. On March 30, a group of Fateh youth celebrating the results of the Bir Zeit student election began shouting against the protesters, then began trying to burn the tent. When protesters filmed the attack, their cameras were taken and destroyed and the tent pulled down. Police were present at the time of the attack but did not intervene to protect the protesters and even left the square.

In another attack on the youth movement in Palestine, members of the Fateh movement and security services attacked youth protesters in Qalqilya on April 1, 2011, using knives and blades, sending two young protesters to the hospital. The Palestinian Authority security services told them that it would detain them after they are released from the hospital, reported the youth activists.
