The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine reported on March 30, 2011 that the Palestinian Authority security forces arrested two young men who attempted to raise the Palestinian flag near Bet El settlement north of Ramallah, during a march marking Land Day at the entrance to Ramallah at the north, and prevented the arrival of other demonstrators, mostly students.

The Front stated that this action violates Palestinian citizens' legal rights, which guarantee public freedoms and the right to demonstrate. It said that it should be the duty of all Palestinian forces to support the popular resistance and the demands of the youth movement to end the division and occupation. This action, said the Front, exposes the reality of the destructive effects of security coordination with the occupation at a time when it continues its settlement-building and colonization of the very Palestinian land commemorated today by the Palestinian people everywhere.

The Front warned of the consequences of violating the rights of the Palestinian people, and the violation of their dignity at the hands of any Authority in Ramallah or in Gaza, saying that this does deep harm to the unity of the struggle to confront the occupier.

Anas Barghouti, a lawyer with Addameer, said that these detentions were illegal and contrary to the provisions of Palestinain Basic Law.

PFLP: On Land Day, end division and honor the martyrs by fighting for all the land of Palestine

On Land Day, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine called for an end to political and geographical division, demanding restoration of national unity on the basis of national resistance and democracy. It called for holding elections for the Palestinian National Council including all Palestinian forces in all places where Palestinians live, on a democratic basis, to rebuild democracy in our national institutions and provide a popular and legitimate basis to lead the Palestinian united struggle for liberation.

In its statement released on March 30, 2011, the PFLP said, "On Land Day, the Zionist enemy persists in its settlement project and implementation of plans aimed at creating settlements in all parts of our land. Just as the West Bank and Jerusalem are targeted, the Galilee, the Triangle, the Naqab, the cities of Haifa, Yafa, Ramle and Lyd are also targeted. The slogan of the enemy is ethnic cleansing as the law - more land and fewer Arabs. No means of ethnic cleansing are excluded from this criminal plan." Furthermore the Front said that it has been proven that the enemy will stop at nothing in their settlement activity, when they refused to even provisionally pause settlement activity in return for negotiations, saying that its arrogance is so great that even its sponsor and partner America could dissuade it from the path of settlement building. The Front said that the Palestine Liberation Organization has failed to take the positions needed to confront the settlement project as it daily attacks Jerusalem and dismembers the West Bank, destroying its geographic continuity. "This issue must not be dealt with as a file, but a national mission to move our entire people to confront the settlers and invaders who burn the stones, trees and people without scruple, deterrent or control," said the PFLP statement."

Furthermore, said the Front, "For over a century, our Palestinian land is being plundered in an attempt to obscure its Arab identity. The minds of the racist, fascist settlement-planners have not been deterred from their target for an hour in over a century. Over this same time, we have confirmed our adherence to our land, under attack by war machines, thrown in refugee camps and still our people are locked in a long and difficult battle to keep our land and regain our identity and dignity, offering great sacrifices for the sake of freedom and dignity, that shall not have been in vain."

The Front's statement recalled the Land Day martyrs of the Galilee, the Triangle, Sakhnin, Arraba, and Kafr Qana, the martyrs of Al-Aqsa in October 2000 and the inspiration of the Al-Aqsa Intifada for independence and return, saying that their blood illustrated the Palestinians in the occupied lands of 1948 - their fundamental allegiance to their nation and their people in spite of all attempts to erode that allegiance, to Israelize them and erase their existence. The blood, said the Front, that has been shed in the villages of the Galilee, the Triangle and the Naqab reveal the utter failure of the racist policies of Zionism. The Front saluted with reverence and pride our heroic people and their struggle for national rights, democracy and humanity, confronting the tyranny of occupation and the ever-increasing racist, fascist laws against our people. It paid special tribute to the people of the Naqab who insist on adhering to their land and identity despite bulldozers, demolitions and displacement.

Furthermore, said the Front, it must also be noted that the Palestinian Authority has also neglected agriculture and the protection of the earth, noting that Palestinian markets are flooded with Israeli produce while Palestinian unemployment increases, while the agricultural sector could grow and employ many if properly managed. The PFLP demanded that agricultural policy protect the land and the farmer, calling for the establishment of a national agricultural council and support for cooperative farm projects. It also demanded protection of the Palestinian market of goods from the occupier and all institutional support to structures that link the land to our national and political project, so as to enhance steadfastness and protect Palestinian land.
