What really happened with Alex Rackley and the Black panthers?

I was reading the Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Rackley) about it, but i find it hard to believe that the black panthers would have done something as horrible as torturing and killing a 19 year old even if he was suspected of being a police informent, so could some give me a better explanation about it?

Anyway, it's possible that this is true. You never know. COINTELPRO really did a number on social movements and resistance groups at the time, and the suspicions within organizations that such attacks foster create a climate of fear and mistrust. Stuff like this can come out of that. Infiltrators, snitches, and informants should all be dealt with harshly, but I don't believe in torture really. Revolution is a messy business and it'd be nice if people weren't fucking traitors.

upon the repression of the black panthers, many of them stepped back and founded new, less political movements which were originally for home protection but soon degenerated into drug dealers and criminals.

no the crips were started by Raymond Washington (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Washington) and Stanley Williams (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Williams) neither of whom had anything to do with the Black panthers (though according to Williams the Crips were started to protect black neighborhoods from crime), the bloods started as a sub-gang in Crips but broke off because of internal issues involving drugs.
