First, of let me say it is not my ideal system. I much prefer true socialism, however is it wrong that if had to choose between keeping the U.S. the way it is or making it into a social-democracy like Germany, which seems to be a fairly radical one, I've even heard all boards must be made up of 50% of the workers, is is so bad that I would choose the German system in a heartbeat over the current U.S. plutocracy?

Bigger cages and longer chains are nice, sometimes.

It beats shorter chains and smaller cages.

Clever name, btw.

I think a better point to make is that there's always the potential to build or help build an independent working class movement. Don't support any form of Capitalism and instead fight for Communism.

And that exploitation is still exploitation. And that social democracy is based on reforms granted by a reformable capitalism, usually to keep workers from fighting for their own emancipation. And that it corresponds to certain material conditions and is not really something you can will or elect into existence.

So what exactly does it mean to "choose" such a thing?

Would you "choose" that Evo Morales and his outfit took control of the capitalist state in Bolivia promising reform when the toiling masses were already in the streets demanding "workers to power!"?

you can choose germany over america as you can choose getting punched in the face over getting punched in the balls. however, you are only choosing between two punches, whereas i'd rather have none at all.

we have the choice to fight for something different - this is why we are communists.

I'm not sure if the social-democracy in Germany is all that radical though. It may be by American standards since some sectors seem to consider all of Europe socialist (lol), but I'm not sure if it's something you should be striving for. It may seem better but the working class won't be able to much under social democracy in the long run. We've already seen this anyways- much of the lauded benefits that social democracy had brought Europe is already being rolled back in the austerity drives in Europe, often with no real opposition by socdems sitting in their legislatures.

my point is that "longer chains and bigger cages" is impossible today. also you can't elect social democracy

In the USA it's hard to see any possibility of change, despite our long and untaught history of labor struggle. Just hold tight and keep fighting for a different world, not a different strain of Capitalism.

social democracy, though better than the present system in the US, should not be the end goal.

Social Democracy is to Communism as Splenda is to sugar.

I would say more that Social Democracy is to Communism as poison mushroom (from mario) is to power up mushroom.

They both look like good stuff at first, but as soon as you get it you'd wish you'd paid better attention.

If Glenn Beck thinks what Obama plans will make America socialist, imagine what he thinks Social democracy is.
