The article was pretty balanced. It is evidently clear that the reporters poked fun at the fact that the celebration was arranged in London and not in Moscow, and arranged by celebrities.

And this is why I don't take celebrity opinions seriously.

""If you look at our world now," he told us, "all of the things that are happening in Egypt, Belarus, Iran and Libya, people are fighting for the very kind of freedoms and access and ability to cross borders that Mikhail Gorbachev did so many years ago... I suspect that you could draw a direct line to Mikhail Gorbachev and say that's where a lot of this began."
I smell gobshite

Why was his 80th Birthday celebration in London? Russian ex-pats?

I have to admit, I used to feel bad for Gorbachev and imagined him as a slightly incompetent official who failed to do his job correctly and preserve the USSR. But after seeing a lot of this celebration lark, I understand he's either completely embraced free marketeering and the "joys of freedom", or he is a very confused old man who thinks he is still in the bingo hall.

Probably because no one in Russia gives enough of a shit to attend so they didnt want his feelings to be hurt.

Hail to the one incapable enough to maintain the mummy of socialfascism. Without him, today communism would still be considered something like the crap it turned after 56 to USSR.

Don't think this thread is politics worthy.

And 'socialfascism' is just hilarious.

Who cares? The fucking soviet nostalgists who are going to get all angsty at the mention of Gorbachev are talking with a corpse in their mouth.
