Pessimism is defined as the disposition to look at the dark side of life and to expect the worst in all things.

Is it therefore the most logical approach to life, more realistic and less idealistic? If we look at things as they are, there is no gap between 'what is' and 'what should be.' That way, we can analyze the situation better and come up with solutions.

^^^I'm not optimistic this approach will work.

Nothing good will come out of this thread.

In any case, an attitude is not a philosophy.

In general, I think Marxism is a pretty optimistic philosophy. It supposes that people can and will overcome contradictions that are obstructing them and create a better environment for human beings.

On the other hand, capitalism with its "every man for himself," "its a dog eat dog world," and "the poor will always be with us" mentality can not help but create pessimism.

The task of overcoming capitalism has proven quite complex historically, so we are living in a generally pessimistic age, at least in the United States where I live. However, one good socialist revolution over a large area could change that.

I'm an optimist with low standards and it works for me. I never expect too much but I'm happy and I look forward to things and enjoy things. Pessimism is not necessarily more realistic. It's just depressing.

Pessimism is great, because you only have agreeable surprises.
