...without German and Swedish assistance? According to Wikipedia, Imperial Germany gave considerable assistance to the Finnish White Guard during the 1918 civil war, including the training of 2,000 Jaeger troops who were able to act as instructors and officers, and formed the NCO and officer corps of white guard forces. Also, there were 1,200 volunteers (mostly officers) from Sweden. Could the reds have prevailed if the white guard hadn't received this assistance? What could have been the ramifications if they were victorious?

I dont know too much about the finnish civil war, but my impression is that the 'reds' had most of the population (workers and peseants) support and the 'whites' had control over the military forces, thanks too the murderer Mannerheim. Neither do i know how efficient the red guards where, how well organized and soo. In the end i dont think they would have managed to keep them for too long without help frome Germany and Sweden.

Im responding a bit late comrade, sorry for that.
- The Finn White guard recieved help from Imperial Germany, and that proved to be a great advantage, arms shipments and the return of some jaegers from Germany were transforming the White Guard into a credible fighting force.
Both of the armies presented heroism on the battlefield, nevertheless, the Whites had a number of telling advantages--The superior leadership that made them a more efficient fighting mechanism,Mannerheim, the Whites' military leader, was a professional soldier and imperialist who knew how to lead an army, and he led it well. He was aided by the influx of jaegers from Germany, they also had a number of professional Swedish military officers. In addition, the Whites had better equipment, most of which was supplied by Germany. Not to mention that the Whites had more foreign help, they recieved it from Germany, and their allies, the Soviets had approximately 10.000 Russian troops remaining in Finland in January 1918,but these troops didnt get involved too much. On the other hand, the Germans sent not only the jaegers, but the Baltic division, professional troops that outmatched the heroism of the Red Guard.
I don't think the Whites could do it without the Germans. They after all won one of the more important battles for them (Helsinki) 10.000 professional and equipped men is not an irelevant factor in the war.
