Seems like the conservative government has not survived a no confidence vote today. It has been sent home.

The motion was put to the vote by the iberal faction. It declared the government is in contempt of parliament amongst others for not giving enough information about the economic situation and the spendings budget.

It passed with a majority of +11 votes....and this means that there will be elections.

The conservatives have a vast number of seats in the commons.

Conservatives: 143
Liberals: 77
Bloq Quebequoise: 47
NDP: 36
Independents: 2

The liberals hope to end the conservative governments rule of more than 4 years.

THis does not seem likely because new polls suggest that the conservatives still has 43% of the voters behind it. The liberals and NDP respectively get 24 and 16 percent of the votes. And the Green Party may arrive at 6%, BC gets 10%.

There is still a campaign to go through and this may all change.

The conservatives offcourse are pissed.

Now...this is not a socialist victiory...at all....but still...it pretty sweet to see governments and dictatoships fall left and right. Naturally many governments are not to be compared but the world situation seems to be very chaotic and turning against the established parties and governments.

its not bloc quebecoise, its Bloc Quebecois.

i predict a big tournout in my province, especially in my city.

the governement recently refused to give us funds to build a new stadium, and a lot of people are deeply angry beccause of this.

The bloc quebecois will again capitalize on the possibility on the potential threat of a conservative majority to scare people into voting for them, and underlining various scandal of the governement.

i predict another tories minority or a liberal minority.

People might not realize it but Quebec is a big deal for the conservatives, we put them in power back then.

I vote for the NDP every election, and this one will be no different.

Let me put my mainstream cap on and comment on this:

You have a government that's spending its ass off with defense dollars on rather unreliable contracts (that is, all plane maintenance is in the US).

You have a government that's spending its ass on partisan ads (from "Economic Action Plan" to anti-Ignatieff ads) without much in the way of disclosure (just saw the CBC news report on this).

You have a government that's got contempt-of-Parliament issues, with two prorogue sprees.

You have a prime minister who is by and large a control freak.

You have an opposition that doesn't have its head straight about corporate taxes vs. income taxes, or about employment stimulus.

You have nobody who's got a real foreign trade diversification strategy.
