Вели́кая Оте́чественная война
(The heroic efforts of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War)
(and the demonization of the Soviet soldiers and the Red Army)

The comrades form the Red Army : (and other various communist forces and partisan elements world wide)

Introduction: preview

As i am a new (and young) member on the forum i felt no urge to open up new threads and start discussion,id rather take part in the existing ones, but now, considering that the 'history' subforum is quite active and popular,i decided to re-open a topic - the victory over fascism and nazis: (in a couple of parts) Im sure a lot of member from the entire world are interested in this topic and are willing to contribute.(Some members probably know all this, but the new ones and the comrades less informed about this certain subject should find my little text informative and interesting.Hopefully.
In the best interest
Erich.

1) Introduction.
2) Start of the war.
3) Stalingrad and its importance in the Great Patriotic War.
4) Total victory and the recent times.

The demonization of the Red Army and other communist forces in the Great Patriotic War and other conflicts of greater importance.

Ahm,first of all,let me explain the idea of the thread -
In the recent events i find more and more anti-Red Army propaganda, which rooted deep into the films,(Enemy at the gates) and even in video games (Call of Duty and similar games)
- The west and the right-wing movements are trying to undermine the efforts and the heroics of all communist military forces,in various ways, but still, they managed to get to the people and the image of the vandal communist horde with a strong flavor of madness and villainy, unfortunately, this idea is now wide-spread,and commonly accepted, while the previous generations loved and praised both the western allies and the eastern ones as the victors against fascism and nazism, nowdays, the whole idea changed, the veterans, the heroes who forged our freedom and future are in some countries equal to the invaders that wanted to control the entire world.
You must note that i will try to keep this thread non-political,and the mention of Stalin is not always in the good context, but he was responsible for a number of things, and for the simple fact that he served as a necessary leader for the people.

Introduction.

Where to start?
If the you comrades need reading material on the Soviet military struggle,(in the best revolutionary and positive spirit) i suggest reading 'How the was steel tempered' by Nikolai Ostrovsky (1904–1936
and 'Young Guard' Alexander Alexandrovich Fadeyev
Both novels show the efforts and heroics of the Soviet people in their many struggles, but in a eased and highly interesting way.I suggest reading both.

How the Steel Was Tempered (Russian: Как закалялась сталь, Kak zakalyalas' stal' ) is a socialist realist novel written by Nikolai Ostrovsky (1904–1936) during Stalin's era. Pavel Korchagin is the central character.

Characters
Pavel Korchagin – The novel's protagonist. He is fighting on the Bolsheviks' side in the Civil War (1918–1921). He is a quintessential positive hero of socialist realism.
Tonia Toumanova – Pavel's teenage love. Tonia and Pavel became good friends after their first encounter, which later develops into an intimate relationship. Though born of a wealthy and influential family, Tonia treated everyone equally unlike her friends, who only interact with other children of well-reputed families. However, this changed as she grew up, as she became more aware of her appearance and social status of others.

Moving on...

History books on the Soviet struggle in the Great Patriotic War.
(you can find plenty, but i suggest you read the ones from individual writers)

Vasili Tyorkin: A Book About a Soldier. by Aleksandr Tvardovsky.
Days and Nights by Simonov, Konstantin (1944)
Son of the Regiment by Kataev, Valentin P. (1946)

The start of the war.

Operation Barbarossa, the largest German military operation of World War II,the big one of Hitlers monsters, their final test, and their inevitable doom.
It all started in cabinets,by planing,by thousands and thousand of ideas and solutions brought by the generals of the Reich, but in the end,on the plains near Moscow,on the plains near Leningrad,on the streets of Stalingrad and in the skies above the Soviet motherland,it all ended,Hitlers dreams of conquest and a 1000 year Reich were crushed by the free and brave comrades of the Soviet Union, and by the free people of the entire world. But this bloody struggle took a heavy toll, many brave Soviet workers, soldiers, and civilians lost their lives in the heroic struggle against Hitler's brutalized hordes.
The freedom, the peace and the love for their families and the motherland proved to be Hitler's greatest, problem,no matter how many crazy SS troops, grenandiers, tanks and bombs he sent to the East, the people survived,as if they were mocking the fasicst pigs who could only wonder how could a people endure so long in such conditions.
However, the war started with the fascist striking at the motherland,in the operation Barbarossa, never before had the Germans went on to a conflict in such scale,a conflict that would over-come all other in the past, both in the meaning of the cause, and in the horrid nature of the war.
The mad man in the Berlin Bunker signed,n\on December 18, 1940, Directive 21 (code-named Operation "Barbarossa"), the first operational order for the invasion of the Soviet Union.
And it begun.

The nazis wanted a war of destruction, their goal was a subject,a lesser, slave people, who only worked on their directive, subhumans, their working force, but they made a grave mistake.
With 134 Divisions at full fighting strength and 73 more divisions for deployment behind the front, nazi forces invaded the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941,Three army groups, including more than three million nazi soldiers, supported by 650,000 troops from Germany's allies (Finland and Romania), and later reinforces by units from Italy, Croatia, Slovakia and Hungary, the situation was grave indeed, the comrades of the Red Army were in a bad situation, hundreds of units and tanks were destroyed by the nazi war machine as it charged on trough the Soviet mainland,it seemed as the Soviets were on the brink of collapse,as if they had no real chance to recover, but the people knew the results of a potential nazi victory - millions in the death camps, millions executed and millions executed for being communists or for being Jewish. They knew the cost of defeat, and they put every atom of their strenght to the war effort.

The nazis also maintained a strong colaborator help,as many traitors openly helped the nazis,in their conflicts, and in the background,as they hunted communists and Jews in the nazi occupied teritories.
Many Jews, communists,Russians, and even prisoners of war were executed in a horrid manner, put in unmarked mass graves,in forests and planes, many brave and unfortunate and inocent civilians died.

In mid-August 1941, Soviet resistance greatly improved, proving that the Soviet Union will fight to the end,and a fast victory in the east cannot be achieved.Still,by late September 1941, the nazis reached Leningrad, and they controlled a number of valuable towns in the Ukraine. In December, they reached Moscow, their prize.
But the entire operation proved to be too much for the nazi military,as their ranks lost much of their number in the brave soviet counter-attacks and resistance fighters known as partisans. They lost speed, the terrain was rugged and hard to come pass, the mud, snow and tall grass slowed even the panzer,Hitlers mechanical beasts, the army could not continue to attack in this rapid way,the Blitzkrieg was stopped and now it was the Soviets turn,to attack and push back the nazi invader out of the motherland, back to the Reich.

On December 6, 1941,the Soviet comrades launched a massive attack,on almost all of the fighting fronts of the army, the nazis were pushed out of Moscow, but they regained strenght and started to push toward Stalingrad, the second most important battle-field,a city with a large population, and with a important strategic value, the oil fields and the crossing of the Volga river, the Germans once again tried to use Blitzkrieg,in hopes to overcome the Soviet resistance and quickly capture the city, but it all fell to the water as soon as they started to combat the narrow streets, the corners, and the defending comrades in Stalingrad.
With this, they opeining phase of the conflict was over and war excalated to prevoiusly unknown sizes.

Stalingrad and its importance in the Great Patriotic War

The city of Stalingrad was one of the most important battlegrounds in recent history, the ending of that conflict also signaled the slow but inevitable doom of the Reich and the failure of the nazi leaders, and the ultimate victory of the people.
From the start,Stalingrad was highly important to both the Russian and nazis, while the nazis needed the oil fields and a breakthrough the Soviet comrades had to hold the city at all costs,if it fell, the entire Soviet Union would follow,as that victory would allow the Germans to replenish their streanght and their forces would gain the much needed morale boost.
The streets of Stalingrad were destroyed by bombing, and it prevented the panzers from moving fast and avoiding ambushes and surprise attacks, while it enabled the Soviet comrades to diminish the strenght of numbers the nazis sometimes had.It also enabled the Soviets to engage into a hand to hand type of warfare, where panzers were quickly destroyed by molotov cocktails and bombs, mines, and the soldiers ambushed, and maimed by the snipers who had a lot of hiding spots.
The Germans soon lost their upper-hand,and realised that this wont be an easy fight they expected it to be -
The soviet counterattack.

Operation Uranus 19–30 November 1942

Don Front 24th, 558 65th, 66th, 16th Air Armies

In a number of operations the Germans have been encircled and near - destroyed, the 6-th army was in a ring of steel it never broke trough, and with it,fell the last hope of a German victory in the east.

Stalingrad was important as much as a military victory to the Soviets as it was a morale boost, the Soviets compleatly regained strenght, regained morale value (they never were too low on morale,as the motherland always inspired them)
While the Germans have been utterly crushed, along with their allies, the many puppet regimes and armies they supported.
The nature of the conflict was horrible,so much loss of life,a lot of inocent people dead, and an entire city blasted to smithereens by artillery and bombing.
But we must not forget the bravery of the comrades of the Red Army in their heroic defence of Stalingrad, and their sacrifice for the freedom of all people.

Total victory and the recent times.

The Soviet Unions contribution and sacrifice plus the great war effort greatly helped to topple the Reich and destroy the evil that was nazism.
But even after all these atrocities comited by the nazis, and the concentration camps, and the mass murders,we still have wide-spread fascism and nazism,as if the people forgot everything that happened,as if they simply forgot the darkest days of mankind during the rise and fall of nationalsocialism.
I bet that many of you wonder how could someone still be a self-proclamed nazi, after all what has happened.
Well,i can try to answer that -
If Hitler suceded in something,it was the spread of race hate and enmity,it was the spread of everything we combat against, but his evil has deep roots, and it slowly inflitrated many minds, consuming young people, infesting them with his ideas.
We can only hope that the future holds better things, and that the memory of our grandfathers, who fought for the future of all generation, could look happily at the world they liberated, not only Soviet comrades of the Red Army, but also Americans, the British, the French, the many people of the Balkans,in fact, all free people who stood up to nazism and the evil it is.
May they rest in peace.

Now,i hope you found my little thread and writings interesting, and informative, that was,in fact my original idea.I would like if you could further contribute with your own view on things and personal ideas.
