Somehing I've wonderd about for some time. Supposing the world had a socialist revolution and the capitalist means of production was finally dismantled. What would a socialist organization do after the revolution? Should it disband?

I realize this is a very hypothetical question but....

well after that succes we should all engage in a worldwide party. on a serios note, after a revolution like that these organisations probally still have an importent role either way as discussing platforms or as organisations that participate in the socialist democracy.

I can't help but think that there wouldn't be a need for a socialist (or communist) party after the revolution has been... well, completed.

This sort of depends on how you're using the word "socialist". If you mean a person who uses Marx's analysis of capitalism, then a socialist is someone who is there to oppose the capitalist mode of production. So I guess, once you get rid of capitalism then there would no longer be anything to oppose. You know, dictator of the proletariat stuff, the withering away of the state and all that.

What do you mean by "organization"? You mean like a party? I don't endorse the Idea of a vangaurd party, for a similar reason.

Set itself to the distribution of kilts and whisky, so that the post-revolutionary world can be enjoyed in appropriate style.

Seriously, though, I imagine that specifically socialist groups would just disband themselves, while those with a wider focus, e.g. queer organisations, feminist organisations, anti-racist organisations, etc. would be able to continue addressing those issues.

As socialists we should quite obviously. Socialize.
On a serious note we should take "inventory" on the current state of events so we can minimize the amount of time it takes to achieve full socialism. It's best that we try to achieve it one part at a time(from Capitalism to Social democracy ect ect). After we have achieved full socialism should we then party and give out free cake and copies of Portal 2.

After the revolution we should work to prevent capitalism from returning.

There in is the problem. This is really untreaded territory, as in my opinion, the regimes which came from the Russian and Chinese revolutions don't so much even approach socialism.

In these instances the vanguard party had converted itself to essentially a new ruling class. And as Trotsky said "no devil has willingly cut off its own claws" ... but then again, Engels said the state would "whither away" in Origin of the Family. If socialist living standards and production levels are being achieved and a global classless society is reached the claws (the state) simply will whither away as the motivation for hording and accumulating is eliminated due to the means of production being at such a high level and so effectively planned that so much of the needs of life are being produce that accumulation would be an absurd notion.

Uphold the revolution, and spread it,while pushing back the influence of capitalist's and imperialists.
Building culture centers, making parades, introducing the great figures of the revolution to the youth and further educating the youth, and all people of the importance of the revolution.
Socialist must uphold the family, and the traditions of it,so a grand feeling of unity and togetherness can be spread, comradeship and unity.
I quote Lenin:
Destroy the family, you destroy the country.

Further advance with the political issues, progress must never stop.
I quote Lenin yet again:
No amount of political freedom will satisfy the hungry masses.
Try to bring other people to the path of the revolution,so all people become free and equal:

The aim of socialism is not only to abolish the present division of mankind into small states and all-national isolation, not only to bring the nations closer to each other, but also to merge them.

A true socialist must always remember the past, but look forward to the future, and everything the future, may bring.

Just out of interest, what would you anarchists do if there was a successful socialist revolution where we did manage to abolish the capitalist means of production? Would you still struggle against the new state? Bit of a stupid question, just wondering :)

Destroy the family, you destroy the country.

I'm not seeing the problem here. Two birds with one stone.

This whole problem seems to me to develop from a view of a revolution as a magical happening which suddenly transforms society to a lala land.

As we wrest more control over how society is run there will certainly be many factions wrestling over what do do with that control. With our opinions actually counting there is gonna be more politics over every issue, not less.

Man, all the talk on here about "The Revolution" is borderline religious.

We're fighting for socialism right now. We will be fighting for socialism. Once we reach a point where we're happy with the socio-economic system, we will keep fighting to maintain it.

Dedicate itself to maintaining the revolution. We could have socialist revolution fairs, museums of the revolution, revolution week carnival, work with the parks ministry to build a revolution themed park, etc. Make a "love" for the revolution like we have for ancient Greece and the Renaissance now.
