My folks, particularly my mother, watched a lot of classic movies so I was familiar with her (though wasn't someone I followed). I heard it on the radio on my way to campus- it was surprising as I haven't really heard anything about her condition before then. But she lived a full life I suppose.
Coincidentally I had read Theodore Dreiser's "An American Tragedy" last December and checked out the loose adaptation of that book, "A Place in the Sun", which she was in.

I'm familiar with her work, partially because of my father's love of classic film, partially because I myself am something of a cinephile. Can't say I'm all that big a fan, but it's still sad I suppose.

Her best work was done as founding member of amfAR, the American Aids Research foundation, where she put her show biz career on the line in the early days of the AIDS/HIV epidemic when it was not pc or popular to associate yourself to what was at the time an unknown mysterious "gay" disease/death sentence. She played a huge part de-stigmatizing it, getting legislature to donate millions for research, worked at it for the remainder of her life. A significant legacy to leave as a Hollywood icon.

She was one of the most beautiful women in the world. And the last time I checked, it was okay for commies to admire great beauty.

I heard earlier today at a GSA meeting that Elizabeth Taylor died. I didn't recognize the name at first (I had only heard Liz Taylor and didn't make the connection) and chalked it up to just another 'gay icon' that I didn't know (I servely lack on what most gays in the GSA consider 'required knowledge' of gay culture). But now that I've seen it here I realize who they were talking bout and now I'm sad. :crying:

Beauty= Glamor? Do you want to mean that?

A tribute posted this morning by the American Foundation for AIDS Research (http://www.amfar.org/).

joke by my favorite cartoonists today in the newspaper:

it says;
Fokke&Sukke (the characters)
think that gods acts in mysterious ways
-"and that on his age"
-"marrying Elisabeth Taylor"
I would like to think she would have appreciated the joke... :)
