They're called 'royal marechaussee', no idea what the exact translation is. I've never seen them evicting squats in amsterdam..

There has been little resistance to the evictions, although the windows of a bank were hit by some stones and some people apparently tried to burn a cop car the night before. 6 arrests.

Also, today, about 25 squatters went to city hall and lit some fireworks.

marechaussee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Marechaussee_%28Netherlands%29) = military police, royal guard and border patrol roled into one, its quite common (and legal) for them to be deployed for crowd controll when the normal police is understaffed (like it is now in amsterdam thanks to the big children abuse case), it almost never happens in amsterdam except at footbal matches but it happens often in the south (nijmegen/arnhem, where the main barracks are). Before the south of the netherlands got their own BRATRA (teargas deployement and baricades removal specialists) unit often the BSB (military anti-terrorist SWAT team) would do the actual evicition of squats there, wich is not an pleasant experience i can tell you.
