Results are coming in for local elections in France - somewhat unimportant for the electoral stakes but a crucial indicator for the French presidential elections of 2012. Sarko's party, the UMP, is running neck-and neck with the far-right FN, each around 15% of the electorate - a catastrophe. The Socialists come in with 25%, Greens and Reds somewhere around 10% each. In other terms, a major shift to the Left, which all the more surprising as abstention was over 50%.
