The secretary general of the Arab League now regrets that it begged the UN and Western powers for a No-Fly Zone over Libya. The augmented death toll of Libyan civilians from US, UK, French and Canadian missile and bomb attacks is bleeding their conscious. To paraphrase Amr Moussa: we asked for a no-fly zone not the bombing of Libya. Any comments?

Those fucking reactionaries knew what a no-fly zone entailed. The media has been hammering that point home for weeks - that a no-fly zone would necessarily involve attacks on ground targets. The Arab league just doesn't want to be seen as complicit in this crusader adventure in the eyes of their public. However, their objections are about as sincere as Pakistan's 'outrage' over the American air strikes that were flown from Pakistani bases.

So they're trying to convince us that they're morons who don't understand the obvious implications of what they advocate?

All of this makes me believe that if US, UK and France upgrade for the eventual murder of Qaddafi that Libya will be worse in a post-Qaddafi era. Look at Iraq for instance. Under Saddam Hussein Iraq emerged into the second world with the largest and most progressive educated Arabs in the whole middle east. Now Iraq is rife with murder, prostitution, extortion, robbery, kidnappings and rape and a host of all types of secular and religious miscreants.

And the mighty leaders of the Arab world prove that the are yet again the most cowardly people on earth.

Arab League head Amr Moussa has qualified comments he made criticizing the reported civilian toll from Western airstrikes in Libya, telling reporters in Cairo on Monday that the Arab League and the U.N. Security Council are "united" on the need to protect civilians. "[The Arab League] respects the U.N. Security Council resolution, and there is no contradiction," Moussa said.

"We will continue working to protect civilians, and we will ask everybody to take this into consideration in any military operation," he added."We have received assurances that these issues, especially the protection of civilians, will remain a unanimous goal for the U.N. and the Arab League."

As George Galloway has noted several times, the support of the Arab League should never have been pointed out as 'justification' by the west in the first place. Almost every nation in the Arab League is a tinpot dictatorship run just as badly or worse than Libya.

Their support should be taken with a kilo of salt.
