View Full Version : Racial Segregation

Comrades,

We all know about the racial segregation that stems from white nationalists; they stem from hatred of the minorities.

Now what if minorities feel they're unsafe and better off among their own communities. Technically, this would also be racial segregation, not born of hate but fear - and hence understandable.

What if people of color become 'nationalists' for this reason, for some sort of security?

The USA is a very racist country, and even though it's supposed to be the melting pot, it is not the melting pot at all. Because most white european americans (not all) hate blacks, muslims and other non-white europeans living in the USA.

So what many oppressed sectors do is that they hang around with people who are compatible with them. But thats not racism or nationalism at all. I think that's just a survival mechanism in order to be able to live in the USA violent society full of hatred and evil

You mean like when the Jews all gathered in the ghettos and put a great big wall around it with a gate that could be locked to stop all the ravenous Jew-haters getting it? Sure, it happened, sure, the ghetto of the Middle Ages was a mutually beneficial arrangement, and was in many cases Jewish-instigated, but that doesn't necessarily make it acceptable that, you know, they had to put the fence up in the first place...

On the other hand, it is understandable that, for instance, Muslims in Europe today might gather together in one area, so that they all live near the mosque and the halal butcher and whatever else. Still, that's not pure segregation...no matter how many Turks there are in Stoke Newington, for instance, it's not a segregated area, and I still freely go there to stock up on baklava

i call it bullshit unless you show me some fact. Last time i checked racism had vverry much to do with the cultural background of a region rather than skin color itself.

and the us is far from being a monolithic bloc of racist white men.

In regards to MarxistMan's post, the US is very much a melting pot. It is not the happy, cheery image that some would project, to be sure, but I agree with danyboy the image of the US being dominated by racist white men is outdated. There is still a lingering amount of racism to be sure, but it is dying out.

I can't comment on India, but the segragation which occurs in the US is due to class, not race, though it may appear as such because minorities make up more of the lower class, per capita, than whites do. When issues of segregation come up that are found to be due to race they are generally combated pretty effectively, with some glaring exceptions including being able to get a loan with a half decent interest rate. However, I believe that for the most part we are nearing, and are moving ever towards, a stage of capitalism in which $'s matters immeasurably more than race.

I would say, (merely) in my experience, that most PEOPLE of all colors are a tad bigoted. But not nearly most are outright racists, and even smaller numbers actually HATE other races.

All racism is born out of fear and becomes hatred.

My state is currently having an issue related to this. Since segregation my city has had two different colleges, one for whites and one for blacks. You can go to whichever one you like now, but it's still almost voluntarily segregated. The governor wants to merge the two colleges to save money, which to me is a no-brainer. However, the merger is being protested by a lot of people, primarily blacks. Even Rev. Jesse Jackson was here yesterday giving a speech to students against the merger.

Someone said the only colour that matters is green (money) that seems true for the most part. I think thigs are always progressing as well, slowly but in the right direction.

What if?

Step 1. Get out of your house

Step 2. Experience the world away from your computer screen.

Step 3. Once outside, then you'll realize this "what if" in the real world, is already a FACT. There are plenty of colored people who are Nationalists for every reason there are Whites who are nationalists, and they're just as stupid.

It's a little joke based on the claim that your politics better resemble those of Abul Muzaffar Muhy-ud-Din Muhammad Aurangzeb Alamgir than they do those of Henri de St Simon, Robert Owen, Karl Marx, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, Peter Kropotkin or, in fact, any other socialist to have ever graced the surface of the Earth. It's pretty funny, really
