Has anyone seen this film? Does it have a leftist message? judging by this clip it does. At the end he's only one step away from saying workers of the unite. Or am I just seeing what I want to see?

Sure thing it does , Charlie Chaplin was very sympathetic to Communism, he never joined the CP but remained a leftist throughout his life. The ISO did an article on him

Charlie Chaplain left the country briefly and they banned him from returning.

I've watched almost all of Chaplin's movies. This one is no doubt excellent, as are the rest, and Chaplin truly was a champion of the working class.
p.s.
If you're really interested in Chaplin's works, watch Monsieur Verdoux, which in my view is his best. Only an idiot would refuse to give an Oscar for that masterpiece.

Yeah, I've seen that film and it landed Chaplin in a lot of trouble for being a suspected communist.

I watched a load of his silent films when I was a kid but when I watched that clip it I think it was the first time I'd heard him talk. (always thought he was a yank)
Anyone know if they are available online?
