This is extremely disturbing...

You are right it is awful, but it's a fraction of the damage caused by US bombing in WW2.

 So? This isn't WWII. This is an ongoing disaster on its own that is taking the lives of tens of thousands.

I agree, but the havoc caused by the USA palls this into insignificance.

Insignificance, no. Not in my eyes. Understanding both the disaster of WWII and now this ongoing event, it makes me feel sad that the Japanese have to go through all this. Ideological politics to the side, they don't deserve what's happening to them, and each disaster, whether small or large, WWII or 2011, are appalling events.
The bombing of Japan in WWII was a fucked up scenario designed by the United States. Whereas, what we're now witnessing in Japan is a fucked up scenario designed by all of us and our contributions to climate change, with the complete lack of even giving a damn that climate change exists.

How about we try not to politicize this natural disaster.

Which pales in comparison to the damage inflicted on the Philippines and mainland Asia by the Japanese in WW2.
What is the point of bringing this up? No one even mentioned WW2, but here you go, bending yet another thread towards one of your pet topics.
I thought you were already given your final warning about this shit stirring, Rosa.

I see your Tokyo firebombing, and I raise you the Nanking Massacre.
We should considered humanity lucky that the Tsunami struck less densely populated areas of Japan. Had the epicenter nudged west a bit, Tokyo itself would have been consumed. Just imagine tidalwaves ten metres high crashing against masses of skyscrapers.
Also, Japan had better infrustructure that minimized casualties. Right now the casualties are expected to be around 10,000.
Remember the 2004 South East Asian Tsunami? 230,000 people perished, just like that.

I think we should separate the Japanese state and the Japanese people.
The Japanese state is highly reactionary, and still has not apologised for WWII war crimes against its Asian neighbours, like China and Korea.

All of this has exactly what to do about the main topic?
Please stop hi-jacking threads people.
