How can these guys (Rothbard et al) seriously advocate this? How can they state that it won't translate into private tyranny, if I'm allowed my own personal private army?

Dude, I used to be a huge Anarcho-Capitalist, and basically the whole underlying theme of the philosophy is that the more privatized and deregulated society is, the more likely people will mind their own business and tend only to themselves. Of course, it only takes about 3 seconds to realize how ridiculous this mode of thinking is. Stateless Privatization and Deregulation would actually CAUSE nearly everyone to try to loot and steal other peoples property, and this problem would only be exacerbated with "private defense agencies".
p.s. hey man, what are some of your favorite Vegan foods? me personally I love Thai and Japanese dishes

This method of social order is advocated by anarcho-capitalism.
There's the problem.

Well yeah, they're crackpots. They somehow think that these PDA's will not be used for aggressive purposes (because of 'business ostracism' and other nonsense). It's important for us to dissect and deconstruct this garbage to prevent fellow proletarians from going down this ideological dead end road.
From Wikipedia:
In The Market for Liberty, Linda and Morris Tannehill note that a private defense agency would be unlikely to engage in aggression, as it would not only become a target of retaliatory force, but would become the subject of severe business ostracism. Honest and productive individuals would dissociate themselves from it, fearing that it might use its aggressive force against them in the event of a dispute; or that they might become accidental casualties when retaliatory force is used by one of its other victims; or that their own reputation would suffer due to their ties to it. Moreover, the private defense agency's reputation would suffer and it would be regarded as a poor credit and insurance risk, the latter due to the high risk of claims resulting from its involvement in aggression. The employees and leaders of such an agency as well could face personal civil liability for their involvement, and the agency would not be shielded by sovereign immunity. High-quality employees would presumably be less willing to be involved with such an organization.[15]

That was my thinking, more or less. If I get to have my own private army, then what's to stop me from using this as leverage to get my way? What's to stop me from imposing some sort of 'protection racket' on other market actors? ('sure would be a shame if something happened to your pet store/tire shop/nail salon...'). Somehow, they think that anyone using their private militia for this sort of purpose would somehow be ostracized by others -- some kind of social pressure exerted by the threat of shunning.
As for my favorite vegan food/s, it would have to be the trinity: 1) Indian, 2) Ethiopian, and 3) Thai (and in that order). Japanese isn't bad though. As a matter of fact, I just got some vegetable roll sushi earlier today.
