I went up to Madison last weekend and was interested in the presence of various socialist groups: from ISO to Bob Avakian-ites. But I noticed a clear lack of any apparent anarchist presence. Any particular reason why this is? This question is mostly directed at those who identify particularly with the anarchist branch of socialism.

I was glad to see marxist organizations were there inspiring people with socialist ideas, but why no anarchists?

Also, separate but related:

Why doesn't the IWW self-identify as a syndicalist anarchist organization?

Why doesn't the IWW self-identify as a syndicalist anarchist organization?

Because the IWW is an industrial union, not a political group. It's easier and more effective to unite the working class within a union rather than a political organization which may have a more narrow set of ideals.

the madison infoshop was in the capitol almost every day during the initial 'occupation' with your usual radical left and insurrecto zine selection. saw a black flag tonight and some anarchists may have been involved in getting people into the capitol. there's really not that many anarchists in madison. personally i don't see much utility in acting in the struggle as anarchists/communists/socialists but prefer to act as a worker who also happens to be whatever. i think others feel similarly.

might be an "ask an anarchist" project starting soon though:unsure:

some fliers that have been going around:
