If a leftist got a part time job of 20 hours a week and gave all their income from that to a serious and well-organized leftist group, would that money go further in advancing their goals than spending 20 hours a week volunteering as an activist for said organization?

Good question, probably yes is my first instinct.

Possibly. Really it just depends on what is needed most by the organization, funds or manpower. It could be an organization with plenty of dues-paying members but few members who are legitimately involved. In such a case, the donation would obviously be helpful but probably not as much as a serious investment in volunteer time. Of course the flip side is a group with plenty of volunteers and active members but is perpetually short on cash. In that case, the donation would go much further than your time.

Hard to tell,I would simply just divide;give half the money to the organization, and also do some activist work. But like previously said,it depends on the makeup of the group, and what they need.
