I've had moments when I've felt that the world would be better off completely covered in concrete, steel and glass. I'm not entirely sure why.

Sure, they have their own charm. But the place where I live is one of the greenest places in the country, and it just looks so peaceful in springtime. Wouldn't trade it in for steel and concrete too soon, although I like them in cities.
In a nearby city, they're currently replacing old 70s-style office buildings with one 92m glass and steel structure. Opinions on it are divided, but I think it looks fine, certainly better than the towers that are in use now. In mid-sized cities, you've got to avoid paving over everything, but I do like what they're doing in this city: carefully building good-looking structures just out of the city centre, getting rid of the ugly 70s ones, thereby slowly giving the city a respectable skyline.

Currently, the old towers are still there while the new one is under construction, so a simple walk past is sufficient comparative material. Instead of having the landscape spoiled by those towers, soon it will be dominated by that glass and steel "cruise ship", as people have taken to calling it. Looks like the right decision to me.
Anyway, supporting the idea of getting rid of all the green and replacing everything by grey is something for those hateful transhumanist types on Revleft who seem angry at the world or something.

I like cities much more than rural areas but having only cities on Earth would suck.
Anyway, supporting the idea of getting rid of all the green and replacing everything by grey is something for those hateful transhumanist types on Revleft who seem angry at the world or something.Fuck anything natural and fuck anyone with preferences for peaceful, green areas. Anyone who disagrees probably wants everyone to live in a cave.

When I'm in nature (a significant portion of my life) I feel completely content. Even my thoughts seem clearer...I'll just sit out the deck and look at the sweeping vistas of mountains and bays in front of me and just think, like, for hours. Maybe have a beer or roast a bowl occassionally, but it's just as fun without. I miss that a lot, but fortunately I'm going back to it soon. (That's not to say that nature can't be a *****, though, because that's very often the case.)
On the other hand, in cities and busy urban environments I often suffer from anxiety and depression, and I never really feel completely contented. I like cities in other ways, though.
I'd probably be very, very unhappy if what's popularly known as "nature" were to disappear. For perspective, this is my hometown:

I grew up in a sun-blasted desert most of my life, so greenery is still fairly novel to me. I enjoy an urban setting, but I like having areas of green that I can step to once I get tired of the concrete.

It's not anger so much as intense feeling of disappointment. When I look at the half-assed way the world is organised, structured and developed, it sometimes frustrates me because I feel a strong conviction that we could do much better. Correcting social and economic problems is both laudable and necessary, but doesn't go far enough - it deals with issues relating to nurture, but not those relating to our common nature - namely, our origin as the product of a blind, unthinking natural process completely indifferent to our ultimate fate. Our most basic instincts served us well in the evolutionary past, but our environment is changing faster now than ever, and natural selection simply cannot keep up and even if it did, we cannot expect it to operate in an entirely benign manner.
In the long term, I believe that some of us must willingly give up our humanity in order to prevent humanity from being extinguished totally.

Grow up in a place where it's 95F in Febuary and where, for four months out of the year, the temperature NEVER drops below 90 degrees, that does include the hour before the sun comes up.
Record high for my hometown 113 degrees fucking F, in May.

It's even better at night, because on the other side of the road there is a little river full of houseboats, so you can see lots of little lights through the trees. A bit further ahead, there is a freeway, which makes it kind of paradoxical. On the one side there is complete tranquillity, on the other side hundreds of vehicles go past. Densely populated countries ftw.

Definitely West Coast. The only thing I could think of that fits would be someplace like Santa Cruz. Snow is a maybe, but you are never going to find a place EXACTLY like that.

I really like trees, and I dislike asphalt concrete. Of course it is nice when facilities are close, but I dislike the dense population in the cities.
