Oscar winner asks: Are bankers "too big to jail"?

As the attack on workers and the middle class rages in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio and elsewhere – financed by the Wall Street and corporate CEOs that created the economic crisis in the first place – director Charles Ferguson, as he accepted his Oscar for “Inside Job” said, "Forgive me, but I must start by pointing out that three years after a horrific financial crisis caused by massive fraud, not a single financial executive has gone to jail. And that's wrong."

Wall Street and the US Chamber of Commerce are quietly trying to undermine any effort to hold banksters accountable for their massive fraud. They are trying to block new regulations stemming from the financial reform bill and weaken the investigation being conducted by the 50 state Attorneys General.
Wall Street recklessness and corporate greed wrecked our economy, eliminated millions of jobs, damaged our communities and forced millions from their homes. The corporate criminals got bailed out and are back to record profits, record cash reserves and big bonuses as usual. Jobs with Justice coalitions and allies won some valuable bank reforms in the first round, but the struggle continues.
Right now, the nation's 50 state Attorneys General are investigating bank fraud, but the big banks are pushing for a quick settlement that would let them off easy. No banker should be too big to jail, and it is important that the Attorneys General know people are watching and demanding that we have a full investigation and serious penalties for crimes that were committed.

Message to Attorney General
“Crime should never pay, and that includes the big banks that are being investigated for mortgage fraud and financial malfeasance.
I encourage you to push for the strongest possible settlement with the banks, including reduction of mortgage principal for homeowners and criminal penalties for those that broke the law.”
