Of course, everyone here must like Tool. They have to. It is a musical nessecity. ;)

What are your favorite Tool songs?

Swamp Song, Ænima, Disgustipated, Stinkfist, Lateralus, Undertow, whatever. Just name 'em.

And what do you think of A Perfect Circle? I like alot of their stuff.

Hooker with Penis
Pushit

Disgustapated :D

I liked the first APC, but from what I've heard of the second APC album, it seems stronger. Still don't like it as much as Tool but pretty good.

I do not really like Tool, and I do not know very much about them. I know one woman, though, who hates Tool because she says they are some kind of Christian band. She thinks the lyrics could have been written by some kind of "Jesus freak", or at least by someone who has a messianic complex of his own.

HA! Jesus freak? Here's some APC lyrics, Maynard writes the Tool and A Perfect Circle songs:

A Perfect Circle - Judith

You're such an inspiration for the ways
That I'll never ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you
How the savior has abandoned you
Fuck your God
Your Lord and your Christ
He did this
Took all you had and
Left you this way
Still you pray, you never stray
Never taste of the fruit
You never thought to question why

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you
Broken down and paralyzed
He did it all for you
He did it all for you

Oh so many many ways for me to show you
How your dogma has abandoned you
Pray to your Christ, to your god
Never taste of the fruit
Never stray, never break
Never---choke on a lie
Even though he's the one who did this to you
You never thought to question why

Not like you killed someone
It's Not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ
As if he knows the reasons why
He did it all for you
Did it all for you
He did it all for you..

Christian band! HAHAHA

Opiate

Choices always were a problem for you
What you need is someone strong to guide you
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow
What you need is someone strong to use you.. like me, like me
If you want to get your soul to heaven
Trust in me now don't judge or question
You are broken now, but faith can heal you
Just do everything I tell you to do
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow
Let me lay my holy hand upon you

My Gods will becomes me
When he speaks, he speaks through me
He has needs like I do
We both want to rape you

Jesus Christ, why don't you come save my life now
Open my eyes and blind me with your light now
Jesus Christ, why don't you come save my lies now

The Gaping Lotus Experience

I had a friend once he took some acid Now he thinks he's a fire engine It's okay until he pisses on your lighter Kinda smells kinda cool kinda funny anyway satan, satan, satan... I had a friend once he took some ecstasy tried to marry me and every one in the room He was sort of loving kinda caring, kinda tried to fuck my lazy boy It got a bit messy all over the curtains, arm chair covers, throw pillows, and carpeting satan, satan, satan...I'm getting bored again...

I like A Perfect Circle more than Tool, simply because Maynard seems to write smarter lyrics for them. A lot of Tool songs have sexual undertones, if that's not the main thread in the song already. They are both amazing bands, and Maynard is probably one of the greatest lyricist of our time.

It's pretty hard to beat lyrics like this....Maynard's a genius. This song just screams anti-fad, anti-capitalism to me.

Hooker with a Penis

I met a boy wearing Vans, 501s, and a
Dope Beastie t, nipple rings, and
New tattoos that claimed that he
Was OGT,
From '92,
The first EP.

And in between
Sips of Coke
He told me that
He thought
We were sellin' out,
Layin' down,
Suckin' up
To the man.

Well now I've got some
A-dvice for you, little buddy.
Before you point the finger
You should know that
I'm the man,

And if I'm the man,

Then you're the man, and
He's the man as well so you can
Point that fuckin' finger up your ass.

All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb fuck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.

I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
And you bought one.

So I've got some
Advice for you, little buddy.
Before you point your finger
You should know that
I'm the man,

If I'm the fuckin' man
Then you're the fuckin' man as well
So you can
Point that fuckin' finger up your ass.

All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb fuck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.

I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
And you bought one.

All you read and
Wear or see and
Hear on TV
Is a product
Begging for your
Fatass dirty
Dollar

So...Shut up and

Buy my new record
Send more money
Fuck you, buddy.

You only have to look at my username to know, hell yes I like this band.

I own all there albums and there is not a song that I do not like. Lyrically there are not many better than them, in fact I have heard a Canadian philosophy professor assigns Maynard's lyrics for his students to study.

I find it hard to single out a Tool song as my favourite, It's just too hard but my favourite album would have to be Lateralus. Not so long ago, That album was a necessity for me to listen too everyday.

As for A Perfect Circle, I loved there first album. I have heard mixed reviews about the new album though but I am sure I will love it.

waaaaaaaaaaay to dark for me
I don't know, I found Lateralus (the album) to be very uplifting/postive with the exception of Ticks and Leeches

"With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
between the sounds and open wide to suck it in,
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out,
I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.

Spiral out. Keep going, going..."

is an example of what I'm talking about.

As for politics Maynard does seem to be a leftist, not only because of his association with Rage Against The Machine, Bill Hicks and Timothy Leary in there music. He does a version of "Bottom" live with Zack BTW but he has denounced American Imperialism at concerts, opposing both the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
He has also gotten visibly angry when a crowd began to chant "USA" over and over again and when someone threw a USA flag up unto the stage, he later said he wanted to piss all over it, so it's safe to assume at the very least he is opposed to many values in a capitalist system.

Tool recorded a song with RATM called "Revolution", I believe. It was supposed to be in the Judgement Night soundtrack but it didn't make the cut.

Third eye, Jimmy, and 46 & 2. Learn to swim indeed. I found that Lateralus was a bit more commercial though, good but somewhat softer. Not your run of the mill music, Tool, and APC is good as well. Saw them in Halifax.......at least l think l did. It's all a beautifull hhaaaazzzzzeeeee :D

Rather than Tool, I will list MJK songs I like:

Sober
H
42 & 6
Jimmy
Eulogy
Stinkfist
The Grudge
The Patient
Schism
Parabol
Parabola
You Lied

The Noose
The Hollow
Magdelena
The Outsider
Perfect Enemy/Vacant (Tapeworm Cover)
Pet
Rose
The Package
Vanishing
Weak and Powerless

Can't Kill The Revolution (with RATM)

Passenger (with Deftones)

I think I've missed some. Personally, I think Tool is better than APC, but APC is still pretty good, though some of their experimentation is dodgy, like on "The Nurse Who Loved Me", which is a heavy criticised song. But the fact is, I like Tool and APC quite alot, possibly even Tool is my fav band.

Has anyone else heard that Tool will only be releasing one more album? Alos, has anyone every heard of larchomoogy or whatever Tool use to advocate? If not, go to their official site, and palce your cursor between the two sections of brain and the tear of horus should come up. Click it and you get a whole lot of shit about it.

Kerrang is shit. as Maynard is the only vocalist in Tool and actually makes the band, and writes the bands lyrics, I think it would be a bit tricky for them to make an album without much of his input.

I've heard the same. As MJK is busy with APC, the other Tool members simply send him what they have down for the new album (which is supposedly going to be thier last) and he gives back his input by sending it back. He is a Tool member by correspondence at the moment. So I would say what atlanticche has said is at least somewhat accurate. Though they read it in kerrange (which I don't read), I read similar information on various Tool websites.

I would say Tool is as left as a hippie. So no 'true' leftist really. I think there most leftism was with the RATM affiliations.

I would like to add another song (which I found on the net last night):

you mean the exploited?

I have a song by them called fuck the system, that was more than enough...

it is absolutly terrible. I like to be able to hear the lyrics, not just screaming. Anyway Tool has done songs which are pretty hard, try listening to the album aenima.

However the exploited have pretty cool album art.
