Today has been pretty typical. I am having the same kind of day today that I had on Tuesday and Wednesday. It is turning out to be a dull weekday, and it has been raining for almost three days straight. That is also contributing to this week melting together. I have not even seen extra flags on display, which is typical for government holiday-sorta days. Of course, all of the rain may be contributing to that. If I had a flag for special occasions, (hypothetical... if I had a U.S. flag, I would have a special day and burn it!) I probably would leave it inside so it did not get ridiculously wet.

My day was interesting. We were supposed to talk about 9-11 in History, but we ended on watching the Ken Burn's Civil War Video. Then in Chemistry we had to pause in the middle while we curdled milk for the 9-11 observances. The thing was, is I usually stand up, but don't face the flag, but today I felt awkward not facing the flag. So I had to face it while everyone short of the two nigerians in our class (and two other fellow leftist) didn't say the pledge. This was pretty odd considering how many people don't say it normally.

Went to class at noon, had to park a mile away, got out at 2 and missed the little ceremony thing that my school had, found out one of my boys is having some lady trouble, all in all, a normal day.

Umoja,
On a day like September 11, I can understand why people would feel compelled to perform in jingoistic activities. September 11th is the right-wing's trump card. They play it every time they get into trouble. Corporate news stations burned the images of the trade towers collapsing into our brains. With voices on the right like Ann Coulter's screaming about anyone not thinking like them being nothing short of treacherous, many would rather avoid the pressure of the right-wing demagogues by playing along. Of course, 3,000 deaths is a tragedy that many people will care to mourn, and as long as the right has a political stake in it, we will continue to see this mourning draped in American flags, singings of "God Bless America", and military fighter planes zooming over demonstrations.

By the way, am I the only one who finds it odd that on a day when we mourn death that came from the skies (jumbo jets used as missiles), we "honor the dead" by watching vehicles that bring death from the skies (military aircraft)?

everyone at my school says the pledge, even most of the goth/punks! I don't. I just stand there. If I remained seated people would get too angry and i don't want to ahve to explain to every son of a ***** at my school why I have no respect for the U$. I told some people exactly why sept. 11 ['73] was so tragic. LOL

No-one mentioned it, no-one had to do anything. I did, however, commemorate those killed in Chile, and inform others.

Absolutely! The Nixon administration had an elected president murdered, and his country devastated by fascism and made a guinea pig of "neo-liberalism", all to make sure Anaconda Copper kept getting their cut of the loot in Chile. Fucking disgusting!

Today was like any other day except the kiddies in jrotc wore their uniforms today instead of Tuesday and some guy played the sad sounding trumpet in the morning. And to "remember" (as if we'd forgotten already) my class went the theater during fifth period to watch a recording of some program that was on the history chanel. I DID put my hand on my heart during the pledge though. that's about it.

Well, I actually called it a night for September 10 on September 11. I didn't get to bed until about 2 AM. I woke up at about 6:45 AM to read my Spanish book. Got up, took a shower, put on my olive green Che shirt, jeans, and kicks (Chuck Taylors). Packed all my stuff up in my backpack, went downstairs to talk to my guyfriend Diego (a Colombian studying here at my University). Asked him to help me with my Spanish and talked to him about Allende & Pinochet. He called Pinochet an asshole. We then went on to discuss FARC-EP (Since he's a Colombian, he knows much more about it than I do) and he said that FARC sucks and have their stupid little laptops in the jungle to update their website (http://www.farcep.org/). It was funny. I really don't know a whole lot about them, so I didn't have anything to say. I went to Spanish and there, we had group discussions of topics such as crime, gangs, terrorism, hijacking, etc. I said that the identification of terrorists tends to be a racist action. Then, I went to Arabic class where the Arabs in the class were talking about Israelis (since, last night, there was an Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Forum at the University).. Then, I talked about hearing Angela Y. Davis talk. After that, I went to do my Algebra homework and then went to class. It was stupid and boring as usual. Then, I went back to my room and I am still here. Tonight there is going to be a discussion of Sept. 11 in my building, but I have to go to English, so I will not be there.

Just went to work as every day. Today I put my beret on, my Che with the south american map on it, my che keychain holder and my Che jacket (none of them made in any sweatshop, all made in Cuba or in Europe).. On my work I turned on the music for the day. I selected various songs by Victor Jara (Chilean singer who got killed by Pinochet), Tiro de Gracia (Chilean rap group), Gondwana (Chilean reggae) and a mixed cd with molotov, insane clown posse (goes something like, I pray that George Bush will die), Immortal Technique (revolution), Ska P (America latina libre, McDolar, El ninio soldado), non phixion, the sweatshop union, el gran silencio (america) and some other nice songs for the day.. Entered a group of US people and they were eager to tell me that they didnt like bush, that they were ashamed of him and his politics.. Met a nice Palestinian woman who invited me on a coffee. Missed the anti US protest because I was working  But at the end of the day I went to a Hip hop event that was held in the memory of the 11 september 1973.. They showed a movie also, from a dvd that was made by 11 directors from different countries.. We watched the one with Pablo something about the coup in chile.. All in all it was a nice day..

9/11 never came up. Quite frankly, I wanted it to so I could bring up 9/11/73, and the hundreds of thousands of people killed in Latin America durring the last "War on Terror". But, hey, I live in Ottawa so it really wasn't a big deal.

If I had some comrades here to whom I was politically alligned I'd have done something at my school to commemerate the victims of 9/11/73, but that's what I hate most about Canada- everyone is so apolitical. <_<

I think more rides on sep 11 then most believe here in the US. For one, I believe that the political genre and historical reference will be more right and conservative-- here my thoughts: People of America are coming into the consensus once more like in the post WWII America. The majority of people in the US look upon the Islamic extremists and then compare them to themselves-- they don't see the social US as too conflictual anymore, therefore putting the consensus of people a bit to the right. Ponder this, it irkes me to...

Other than that, it was another boring day of school and UPUSH homework.

I wore a shirt that said "No to War!" today and put some anti-war/anti-capitalist/anti-imperialist buttons on my backpack. In first hour the assistant principal read a speech from the Superintendent of the school district which talked about God blessing America, the tragdedy of 9-11, supporting our troops, how freedom is uniquely American, and other bullshit like that. We didn't say the pledge, though.

Then in American History we watched some videos about 9-11. We didn't discuss it, sadly. I wish we did, because I would have talked about how Bush allowed 9-11 to happen, how American terrorism has killed 1000 times the number of Americans killed in 9-11, how people die every day of preventable causes because of globalized capitalism and imperialism, and 9-11-73.

Then, at lunch, the liberal friend I eat with asked me what I thought of the address earlier in the morning from the principal and we agreed that it was nationalist bullshit. I didn't talk with anyone else at all at school about 9-11, but I hope to tomarrow. And no one said anything about my T-shirt.

It was a very disappointing day. But at least at work the manager kicked an abusive customer out of the store, so I should be kind of happy.

My September 11th kinda sucked. I have a group assignment that I am about to begin in my speech class and I got assigned to a "group" with some people that I don't like.

Yes Comrade MIN, the rain...I have been somewhat sick or something. My throut has been hurting the past three or so days. So, my 9/11 has sucked. Oh yeah, I have also had to carry my class project to and from home in the rain...that was fun. Could be worse, though I hope it gets better.

Hey,
On 9/11 i started my activist career. Me and my mates made a stencil with a picture of Gen. Pinochet and 'the real 9/11' written underneath and fuckin sprayed it everywhere. Then i went to a protest. I read my communist party weekly on the bus and pissed off some old women. Then i congratulated myself, made another stencil for later and went to bed.
