9/11/1973. 30 Years Ago. Presidente Allende died for socialism. Do you remember?
Use that as a rallying point. How many people died under Pinochet? How many 2 years ago? Tears are shed, but in the case of Chilean lives the tears where not shed by those who respect innocent lives, but by those who respect the murderers.
Capitalism has used a great tradegdy to cover up an even greater one. Do you remember?
How many people has America killed indirectly by supporting Pinochet? Or directly in the wars in Afganistan, Iraq, and other places below the radar. How many lives are destroyed by the denial of civil rights to visual 'minorities', who atleast in Canada are becoming less and less the minority every day.
For the Americans and other Westerners tears where shed, but the question 'why' is avoided by those who shed the tears. It is okay to weep in remembrance and also look for the cause of the situation.
Allende supported social reforms, and because he made sure that his people got what they deserved for their work the price of nickel went up. A US influenced/supported coup by Pinochet left not only democracy, Allende, and the Chilean left dead but thousands 'disappeared.
For what? For supporting social justice! For turning away from the Estaudinos Empire! Do you remember?
30 years ago. 2 years ago. One death is a tradegdy. But how many have 'disappeared?' Each person disappeared after 9/11/1973 and 9/11/2001 signifies a far greater tragedy than the social justice Allende was trying to bring about, or the few thousand dead in New York, Washington, and else where in America.
So I ask you... Do you remember?
