Now that things have calmed down in Egypt, people are beginning to discuss which economic model we should pursue. What will always be cited or stressed during these discussions is the Malaysian, Brazilian economic model; how these countries were in the shit much like we are now, but now they have powerful civil institutions, whether education, health or infrastructure; how many were lifted out of poverty, etc.

These are more or less arguments advocating the liberal, social democratic model, and there are already groups on facebook trying to advocate and engineer this liberal economic vision (Egypt 2030) and almost in every talk show, brazil and Malaysia are mentioned as proof of hope that there is a better future.

What I'd like to know is if there is any literature examining these phenomena from a leftist perspective, as I am trying currently trying to formulate a counter argument against these people. Can we claim that this sudden economic growth is sustainable, will these countries eventually collapse? I'd be very appreciative as I am always presented with these two countries as if they're our saviors, or the future we should strive for.
