Excuse the shitty google spanish. I dont know much spanish myself.so I use the google translate to read whats in the mind of the latin american left, and i've been curious to know what theyve said about libya.
To think, not only does it take the side of Gaddhafi and Iran, it even takes the side of the Burmese government against nonviolent buddhist monks... wtf? Seriously, the socialist revolution in venezuela has some excellent ideals behind it but it is starting to go in dangerous directions ideologically if this is the kind of shit their government mouthpiece spurts.
The war crimes still get no coverage except as "media lies," ie those people didn't die, that's bourgeoise propaganda! (how "revolutionary"). Basically, the general idea in a lot of these articles seems to be that because there was no extreme poverty thanks to the fact that Libya has been able to spread its oil wealth, a corrupt and nepotistic circle around the colonel live in extreme luxury while most in the country have no real political freedom. No, that's not the cause of the protest, its a secret alliance between the CIA, the EU and the Jews! (wow, now they can combine anti-imperialism with anti-semitism!). Socialism isn't about giving the poor chump change and health care so shitty the hospitals give them HIV and buy ferraris for your college age sons.
Chavez does many good things as far as building an effective social safety net goes, but the government pushes some disappointing arguments for a "socialist government" insofar as justifying its foreign policy goes. Basically, their one rule is "If they hate America, they must be awesome," and when that blows up in their face (as it is now with Gaddhafi), they trot absurd stories out about how the green movement or the people getting slaughtered by gaddhafi are drones of the jews and the zionists.
being worried about NATO intervention is one thing. But disrespecting the protesters and taking the government's side is inexcusable. Seriously, do they have anyone with a fucking brain in the upper echelons of their foreign ministry and communications?
