I think the Latin American left should condemn the Libyan government in the strongest possible terms. They should say Gaddhafi used to have revolutionary ideas, but that no revolutionary government guns down its people en masse. There is no room for solidarity with an aging tyrant who has fathered a large, corrupt, dishonest bourgeoise little fucks (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12531442). In this sense, Chavez and Castro should avoid making the same mistake that the little Nicaraguan toad Ortega made (who seems more concerned today with pissing on the values of the Sandanista Revolution of '79 for personal political gain, than protecting it) and stand with the people of Libya, against their ex-ally. No "revolutionary" government orders foreign mercenaries to kill its civilians. No "revolutionary" government orders fighters to bomb its own cities. No "revolutionary" government steals from the people for 40 years to buy fancy cars for the offspring of their dictator-colonel. No "revolutionary" leader is such a narcissist that he values his own personal rule more than that of the lives of common citizens protesting in the streets. Anti-imperialism is never, ever a pretext for the wanton slaughter of unarmed people.

Even Iran condemned Libya, one of the few countries which sold it guns during the Gulf War!

I completely agree with you there. Despite all their great achievements and all the wonderful things they have done, the one thing leaders like Castro and Chavez need to stop doing is supporting and praising dictators like Gaddhafi et al.

Except for when it is.

This is true. And it is counter-productive too, it's hard to buy their argument that they are authentic socialist leaders when they either tacitly or actively endorse lunatics like Gaddhafi. At least Castro had the decency to hedge though, Ortega's remarks were just gross.

Except for when it is.

Touche. Correction-it is never a justified pretext.

I don't think Ortega was ever really taken seriously by leftists, at least from what I've read by Chomsky on the matter.

First "real" post..

And yes i agree. There is no reason why Gaddafi should not be condemned. A despot that slaughters hes own people deservers no respect!
