View Full Version : Building little camps in the country.

We should find an isolated area, and build an underground camp to do our leftist work in. We could scavenge the region for opportunities to find resources for building material. It could go deep into the ground, with only a small concealed entrance, and if some dirty-capitalist cop gets in some how, we could gas him to sleep, and dump him on the side of the road far away from the base. It would be a secret underground commune. A liberal city!
We would have to all move to a certain location, but it could make communism in the U.S.A more powerful and concentrated.

A liberal city!Liberal?
Also this is not a good idea. You wouldn't be able to get resources for one (and who the hell can dig far underground?), and it would just be incredibly difficult and pointless. Also, how on Earth would that advance class struggle? Or anything?

EDIT: Oh, no you're just 14 and hella new to leftism.

Socialism or communism - whatever you want to call it - is not to do with coups, violent insurrection or underground plotting. You might, perhaps, have this notion from the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP) split of 1903. This was one of the main communist organisations in Russia at the time. However, it had a left-wing, to which Lenin belonged, and a more conservative-wing, which Martov et al represented. Martov thought that the RSDLP should develop as an open mass party similar to the British Labour Party. However, Lenin, due to the repressive state machinery of Tsarist Russia (the secret police etc.), thought there needed to be built a more closed group of 'professional revolutionaries'. These conditions obviously don't exist in the western countries like the UK and US, so communists can perhaps afford to be a bit more open. But anyway, the way to 'educate, organise and agitate' for communism in bourgeois (i.e., capitalist) society - the world we currently live in - is through intervening in struggle, I think most people would agree. Basically this, from The Manifesto of the Communist Party:
In what relation do the Communists stand to the proletarians as a whole?
The Communists do not form a separate party opposed to the other working-class parties.
They have no interests separate and apart from those of the proletariat as a whole.
They do not set up any sectarian principles of their own, by which to shape and mould the proletarian movement.
The Communists are distinguished from the other working-class parties by this only: 1. In the national struggles of the proletarians of the different countries, they point out and bring to the front the common interests of the entire proletariat, independently of all nationality. 2. In the various stages of development which the struggle of the working class against the bourgeoisie has to pass through, they always and everywhere represent the interests of the movement as a whole.
The Communists, therefore, are on the one hand, practically, the most advanced and resolute section of the working-class parties of every country, that section which pushes forward all others; on the other hand, theoretically, they have over the great mass of the proletariat the advantage of clearly understanding the line of march, the conditions, and the ultimate general results of the proletarian movement.
The immediate aim of the Communists is the same as that of all other proletarian parties: formation of the proletariat into a class, overthrow of the bourgeois supremacy, conquest of political power by the proletariat.A key point to draw from this passage is the importance of the winning of political power -- Marx and Engels did not see the proletariat (average workers like you or me) as a fully-formed class yet. Through the quite distinct process of political struggle will workers form into a class: so that individuals work together for a common (class-based) interest. Maybe I didn't explain all that so well, but if you are knew to the ideas of Marx then I would suggest perhaps reading some easier introductory texts first. Anyway, the main point is that communism has nothing to do with underground conspiracies. Hope that maybe cleared some stuff up
