New York Philharmonic received U.S. permission to travel to Cuba
The Department of the Treasury of the United States finally granted a license for the New York Philharmonic Orchestra to visit Havana next year, said a spokesman for the orchestra in an email late on Thursday, says the New York Times .
The orchestra was in Luxembourg, completing a European tour, when [they received] the communication.
Last year, the Philharmonic canceled the trip because the Treasury Department had refused permission for their sponsors, who paid a visit to Havana from all the musicians could not attend the concerts, because they become "in tourists' a category punishable with severe penalties in the United States, if it is an American who travels to the island.
The spokesman, Eric Latzky, said the approval came Wednesday night. Dates are yet to be decided.
