Can someone give me a run-down of what is going on/what has happened in Nepal? Preferably just facts from whatever started the happenings there (whatever is happening there) and what is happening now.

I never took the time to see what was going on there as it was unfolding. Any particularly interesting events to note etc.

The Maoists led a protracted peoples war against the state from 1996 to 2006, and won, eventually joining forces with the progressive bourgeoisie to end the feudal monarchy. Now they are trying to outmanoeuvre the bourgeois politicians and advance to socialism. Despite being by far the most popular party (they won the election) they have been forced out of power by the reactionaries (backed of course by the imperialists), resulting in a long deadlock. They are currently talking about forming a coalition government with the reactionary CPN-UML, as a way out of the deadlock. Many Maoists oppose this political engagement and advocate a mass uprising (which the maoists are perfectly capable of; they still have their army and they paralysed the country with a general strike last May), but some think there can be a political solution. These are uncertain times, but this stalemate can not last.

Hope this helps.

What does the situation look like in Nepal?

Anyone know personally the attitudes, likelihood of revolution there?

Are the Maoists still popular?

The situation is tense, and could go either way. I see no reason why the Maoists would have less support than before. Revolution is certainly a possibility, but it all depends on whether or not this political game can last.
