I think you get more diversity of opinion in OI. I mean, there are a lot of people I have very serious philosophical disagreements with, but I think there's value in having the discussion. Otherwise it just ossifies into groupthink which is toxic. However, as I've stated, if it were up to me, anybody that could conduct themselves in a fairly civilized manner could post anywhere, regardless of their philosophical views or political tendency.

Problem with the OI, is that almost every debate boils down to one of 2 or 3 arguments that socialists and libertarians have been having since the begining of socialists and libertarians, then after socialists make their points, and libertarians generally ignore it (not all the time, but most of the time), a week later the same point gets brought up againt and it starts all over.

The difference being that these threads are usually created by new/young members who are trying to learn and may not realize that these topics have been covered to hell and back, which to me is just about the only real value of this site.
