Silvio Berlusconi Faces Prostitution Trial

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been accused of hiring an underage prostitute and then attempting to bury the event. He will face trial on April 6th. This new trial adds to a long list of legal battles that the Prime Minister has faced over his career. Some of his earlier charges include mafia involvement, tax fraud, bribery, corruption and false accounting. In some of these cases, Berlusconi escaped a conviction because of legislation passed by his cronies in parliament. By passing new laws they were able to create loopholes for him. Even in cases where he was found guilty, his parliamentary majority managed to save him.
This trial is not the only one Berlusconi is facing. He has three unresolved corruption cases festering on the sidelines.
This new case is different because of the speed involved. The judge ordered a fast-track trial, and it will begin on April 6th. In the past Berlusconi has dogged conviction through technicalities involving the statute of limitations. This time the net will be hauled in quickly, not allowing any wiggle room for the slick politician.
The other person made famous by this scandal is Karima el-Mahroug, the Moroccan-born girl who Berlusconi is accused of paying for sex. She is also know as Ruby Rubacuori, and admits to attending parties at Berlusconi’s mansion, which she describes as orgies. When the scandal broke in 2010, after Karima el-Mahrough was arrested for stealing cash, Berlusconi lashed out at those who called for him to step down and said,

“As always, I work without interruption and if occasionally I happen to look a beautiful girl in the face, it’s better to like beautiful girls than to be gay.

I don't think he'll attempt that since he'd just be showing the world, "Hey, I'm a chauvinistic, capitalistic pig!" He won't be barring women from working in judicial duty.

However, I do believe his seize of power is weakening, and someone new will take the reigns very soon.

Isn't he under investigation for a lot of allegations? I worry that he will simply avoid judgement through intimidation (there was a piece in some dutch newspaper about him intimidating judges that investigate him, up to the point of violence). But I sincerely hope that he finally gets what is coming to him and his cronies: an incredibly long time in the smallest possible prison cell.

If he's left free and continues ruling, surely people in certain provinces (Tuscany, et. al.) will probably be engulf in another round of anti-Berlusconi protests. Perhaps.

To be honest, I don't know if this is truly the end for him...he's survived so much controversy and scandals before.

Please find him guilty.
Please find him guilty.
Please find him guilty.
Please find him guilty.
Please find him guilty.

I've been waiting for this to happen. Then I'll be able to go for a beer over in Italy.

You have to see the bite:Lega Nord blackmailed Berlusconni that if he doesnt support their plan to federate Italy, they are withdrawing their support on his goverment NOW.Given the fact that the italian communists are still very weak on political level(fortunatly not in a social level), you can see that things might not been as they seem.

Clerk 'offered cash to alter Ruby birth date'

TWO mysterious Italians travelled to a Moroccan village and offered an official money to change the birth date of Karima El Mahroug, the teenage pole dancer at the heart of a sex scandal involving Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, an Italian newspaper reported last night.

The two men, described as Italian Moroccans, travelled on February 7 to the village of Fkih Ben Salah, where Ms Mahroug, known as "Ruby the Heart-Stealer", was born, Il Fatto Quotidiano reported.
Mr Berlusconi is due to stand trial next month for paying for sex with an underage prostitute and abuse of power. Ms Mahroug was 17 at the time of the alleged incident, which is below the legal age of 18 for prostitution in Italy. Mr Berlusconi has denied the allegations.
The two men's mission was to find Ms Mahroug's birth certificate, which says she was born on November 1, 1992, and change it to 1990, the report said.
They asked the official to change the date, but he refused, fearing he could get in trouble.

"I was offered a substantial sum," he told the newspaper.
Meanwhile, bank records seized by prosecutors reveal that Mr Berlusconi received E66 million ($91m) from his companies last year and spent E34m - including E120,000 on ties.
