I wish this was more detailed:

...but it's a start.

A lot of the liberal-left criticism of Cameron's 'Big Society' seems to centre around variations of a) people don't want more control over their lives, and/or b) people aren't capable of more control. Lately the criticism has been moving away from Charlie Brooker-ish liberal misanthropy into more developed questions over the practicality of it all (re: funding/charity) and it's role in the Coalition's austerity measures, so that's good of course.

Also wish the writer had gone into more detail about Ed Miliband, cos surely 'Big Society' is more or less the same as the communitarian bollocks spouted by New Labour?

i think that "big society" has a very similar sound to "community charge"- the poll tax. Everything the tories does is for the bourgeoisie, although that definately goes without saying. they are the enemy of the workers!

i don't think much leftist dissection of the 'big society' is necessary on some grand theoretical level...the vast majority of practical-minded people realise it to be vague "communitarian bollocks" and a cover for cuts. apparently even clegg has banned the term from his office.

i'll read the article tomorrow, and link some other left analyses i've seen.
