60 complaints were made to the President of Birmingham University's Students' union after guest speaker Mike Prsyner referred to gaza as a concentration camp and drew parallels between the actions of the Nazi Germany and that of Israel in Gaza.
Regardless of the fact that the Palestine society has clarified that it does not support this comparison and that it was not expecting such a comparison to be made prior to Prysner's speech, Zionist students are pressuring the university to ban the society's activities. They are also calling the society anti-semitic and branding the event as hate speech.
A disciplinary hearing will be held on Thursday 17th February where a decision will be made by the Union as to whether to ban or suspend the society. It is also possible that they will take no action at all, which is what we hope for.
