I like to see you Amero-chauvinist liberals justify this.

Would the Egyptian youth have taken to the streets during the invasion of Iraq? Only to denounce the imperialism and recklessness of the United States. It was only after the election of Barack Obama—and his repositioning of the United States as a friend to the Arab world, most notably during his visionary speech in Cairo (http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/NewBeginning/) in June 2009—that pro-democracy activists in Tehran and Cairo saw a friendly ally in the United States.

In his piece for The Nation today, “How Cyber-Pragmatism Brought Down Mubarak (http://www.thenation.com/article/158498/how-cyber-pragmatism-brought-down-mubarak),” former Obama campaign blogger Sam Graham-Felsen tells the story of how an Egyptian human rights activists and blogger came across a comic book from the 1950s that told Martin Luther King’s story. She translated it into Arabic, and pro-democracy activists used the nonviolent tactics of King and Gandhi in their protests in Tunisia and Egypt. The Obama campaign provided a more recent example of how the seemingly unexpected—the election of Barack Hussein Obama as the leader of the free world—could become a reality.

khad: please troll harder. As much as I agree with you, chill out. Don't start threads with accusations.

But yeah, that article is total horseshit. What mainly pisses me off is its' paternalistic racism -- "oh yeah guys brown people can't do shit for themselves unless we white middle-class liberals lead them on."

I can make whatever accusations I want. It's incumbent on the liberals here to prove their chauvinist claims.

Why have some people been saying these protests were/are "non-violent"?

It's the mandatory liberal fetish of chic civil disobedience. It's why they're so obsessed with facebook's supposed role in the uprisings.

Nah man, it's all about Twitter now. It was the "Twitter Revolution"; no violence but plenty of tweets.

This also sounds identical to the entire point of the Ancient Astronaut theory as well. Notice a pattern?

Because that's what liberals do. Co-opt any mass movements and trivialize it to the point of being virtually meaningless. Why challenge the system when we can organize meetings on Twitter and Facebook, then get together and sing songs and be peaceful? Remember, if the oppressed masses become "violent" then they are just as bad as the oppressor! Better to be peaceful and hope our masters throw us some bread crumbs!

I had a 'conversation' with an American liberal who said socialists had nothing to do with the gains made by the labor movement- that it was all the work of 'progressives' in the house, senate and executive branch of government. It made me dizzy. Anyway, from what I've read the Egyptians are actually saying Obama is no different than Bush. I think these liberals are watching too much Glen Beck.

I don't know why, either. A lot of people died (http://1000memories.com/egypt) and thousands were injured.

What Amero-chauvinist liberals are you referring to, exactly? I've yet to see any around here...

That said, of course liberals would give credit where credit isn't due - in this case, to Obama. His administration didn't do a thing to help the Egyptians; instead, they actively worked to subvert and derail the movement as it was occurring (and they continue to do so now).
