Everything they did....But these mothers standout..
"I cant do nothing for ya man"
"Fight the power"
"Black steel in the hour of chaos"
"Welcome to the terrordome"
PE brought politics to the Hip Hop table long before anyone else...Though it never diluted the music - fierce...

Flava-flav makes the videos great, if only I was older in the days of "In Living Color".

I still think PE is the tops when it comes to hip hop/rap. There are others that are great but nobody can touch PE. Chuck's got such a great loud and booming voice and he just speaks the truth, no crotch grabbing or other BS.

S.O.S;
Tricky's version was really intriguing, it worked thank's to the female vocalist who's name escapes me and the thrashy sort of beat - it's being used now in an ad campaign in the U.K which is a pity but probably inevitable...
"I got a letter from the goverment the other day - opened it read it - said they was sucka's, they wanted me for thier army or whatever - picture me giving a damn I said never...." :ph34r:

Public Enemy was on the ground floor of what rap has turned into. Defintately started a movement all on their own, Their influence is heard in almost all gansta rap Ive ever heard.

Please excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between rap and hip hop?? I often heard the terms used to seemingly refer to the same thing.
And what dumb shit are you referring to regarding Chuck D??

Again, I'm a little ignorant here, where have members of PE gone?
I know Chuck did the Confrontation Camp album which I never heard and he did an intro on the West Memphis Three benefit CD that Henry Rollins put together, but what else has he done that some people don't seem to like?
I don't know about the other members of the group, I never heard much about them.

hip hop is a culture with four elements graphitti, mcing, djing, and break dancing.. rap is a label for one element of the culture, it takes away from the culture as a whole
chuck d. has an article he writes in a magazine called 'feedback' and he just says alot of wack shit.
what 'other' members are you refering to?
P.E. = Chuck D. & Flava Flav
Flava Flav put out an EP called 'Killing Time' it was pretty wack, and he was on the last wu-tang album 'Iorn Flag' on the song 'Soul Power'

And that wack-o Professor Griff. That mutha was so militant even Chuck D sacked him.
Flava-flav was just a crack-head. He embodied nothing that the black man would ever aspire to be. Chuck-D and Terminator X were the real driving forces.
If you aint into PE, then you don't know what's cookin'. You dig?

And I thought I was perhaps the only person on this board that loved Public Enemy.
I wouldn't say that they started anything, I think politcally speaking, KSR 1 and Boogie Down Productions was ahead of them. I love BDP as well and as much as PE.
I started to make a best of CD to listen in the car, untill I realized that I was going to need to make 3 or 4 cds to do so. I have been listening to them since their UZI weighed a ton and when they had Too Much Posse.
Tricky's remake of Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos is simply sweet. That song rocks, because whenever I think I can do anything because my ideals are right, I listen to the lyrics. "Then it occured to me, the suckers had authority".
Terminator X is by far the greatest Spin Artist ever.
"On the count of 3, I want you all to tell me who is your favorite DJ"
PE and BDP are for sure the two bands that influenced my childhood years and made me look at things in a different perspective. Re-think what I had learned and enjoy doing so to wonderful lyrics and beats.
There is a good reason why people try to ban music, it is powerful and I think PE is a perfect example of this. Palatable political lessons that you can listen to and learn.

OK... I'm with you, BDP were deffo socially conscious, "Crack attack" but when Scott la Rock got jacked on Brooklyn bridge the dynamic changed and KRS went into lecture mode, I still dug his shit "Jack of spades" but he had a tendancy towards aloofness. PE V BPD no contest...
