That is a huge victory for the people. Now the task is to topple his successor Omar Suleimen.

It's a symbolic victory, it signals to the masses that they have real strength. As you said, now it remains to be seen if they can translate this from symbolic victory to concrete victory.

This is now a very significant time....on which the future of any possible revolution hinges.
The act can be symbolic and placate popular resentment...without in fact chainging anything but the face of the regime. Many people will feel this is the victroy they have been fighting for....and there is a real danger the protests will now dwindle in size.

even if the protest dwindle, the elites now know what will happen if you try to screw the people.
they have no choice but to respond to the aspiration of the people, that mean more democracy , social reforms electoral reform and economical reforms has well.
they are not dumb, they do know that even by allowing those thing they could still be rich.
That dosnt mean this is a bad thing, has i said earlier, those steps will allow leftist movement to gather strenght and will give to the egyptian people more room to breathe.
and its gonna scare the living shit out of the hereditary elites trought the middle east, that is also a good thing.
long live the egyptian people.

Mubarak isn't stepping down, not as of 11 Feb. 2011, 1:08pm GMT. This is inaccurate and it does not represent the content of the page being linked to.

Mubarak says that he has not resigned, but only 'delegated authority' to Omar Suleiman. As long as Suleiman stays in power, as will in practice the old regime.
The people will not accept that, as we speak the protests are increasing and spreading to new locations -- from the streets and squares to around buildings of government, TV-stations etc. The military is blocking the way to the Presidential palace, which the masses also are trying to approach.
This thread is premature. When Mubarak actually resigns or is toppled, an new one may be started to discuss the implications of that but let's keep following the continuing protests now.
