Its an attempt to mimic the capitalist market.

Its main problem is that it would not work. There is either a market or there isn't.

There are different kinds of market socialism. Lange, Lerner, Yunker and Roemer supported a technocratic type not very different from capitalism. In this idea, corporations would be nationalized and the profits they make would be distributed equally to each citizen in the form of a social dividend of some variety. Most market socialists don't support that though and instead favor worker self-management in the form of cooperatives competing on the market.
