View Full Version : Need Help Finding a Certain Charles Mingus Song

So, I was shown this song a while back - it was less than 4 or 5 minutes long, it was composed by Charles Mingus, with (I believe) Miles Davis on the trumpet. The song itself was played at a very quick tempo, there was a brief drum solo, and that's about all I can remember.

Now, I haven't been able to find it anywhere - and while my description is pretty vague, I was wondering if any of you could help me find what I was looking for...

Oh man, I'm really big into Mingus, but I can't think of what you're talking about here. I don't recall anything with Davis, but doing a google search I came across an interesting open letter that Mingus wrote to him :D

Hot damn, I love the way he writes:

No matter how much they try to say that Brubeck doesn't swing-or whatever else they're stewing or whoever else they're brewing-it's factually unimportant.

Can we try to be this cool guys?

After reading the letter, this is the only clue I could find:

Remember me, Miles? I'm Charles. Yeah, Mingus! You read third trumpet on my California record dates 11 years ago on the recommendation of Lucky Thompson. So easy, young man. Easy on those stepping stones....
