The thing that strikes me as odd is that noone here is actually responding to the thread. I mean, was Che really that racist? With Marx we can say that at least at a different time and context, he may have said some things that today sound bad, but ultimately he supported the Union against the confederates, if I'm not mistaken. But with Che, that wasn't that long ago, and all I can say is many Latinos are racist and machista, but that's hardly an excuse.

From having a black bodyguard to going voluntarily to fight in the Congo to personally pushing for desegregation in Cuban schools, I think Che demonstrated his lack of racism clearly. Of course you could always say he just didn't let it get in the way, but there's still the burden of proof, and relying on things he wrote at an earlier age just doesn't cut it. Plus there's the fact that Che was...well a Marxist.

And yes, racism and especially casual racism does seem to be more common among "middle class" Latin Americans than in the US.

There are persons I look up to, but I know that none of them were infallible. There are persons (such as those on Stormfront) that I detest, but I know that as individuals they probably have some redeeming qualities.

As a whole, however, persons such as Ernesto Guevara I respect more, and Stormfronters I respect little because of their overall accomplishments and impact on humanity.

I respect what Che did, and I agree with his general ideologies, but I never met the man, and frankly I don't give a crap about his personal life; that was his own business.

The thread referred to by the thread discussed in this thread (yes, I made a point of putting that in my post to illustrate how ludicrous I feel the whole thing is), or put in other words, the accusation of Guevara's racism was nothing more then flame bait playing upon that Stormfronter's assumption that revleft was comprised of hero worshipers, chiefly a Che-cult. S/he hoped to stir up shit and possibly even disillusion some of said hero worshipers.

I would like to say that was a gross misconception that revleft was made up of personality cults, and as a general rule I would say most posters are above parroting mindless dogma uttered by perceived infallible heroes. There are enough hero worshipers from the left, however, I can see where such misconceptions originate.

In any case, the behavior exhibited on the internet, such as Stormfront to Revleft or Revleft to Stormfront trolls I find somewhat irksome, but expected. The internet allows people to express their most radical, controversial, or offensive views while shielded by anonymity. When I encounter somebody in real life, however, who exhibits such racist nonsense, I make it overtly clear that I do not tolerate that crap.

Ok, I cede the point about middle class having other connotations in the states, but you're missing the point. Che was from that relatively well-off part of Argentine society. Most of my family is from that part of Venezuelan society. Even today they really think nothing of cracking black jokes. Doing the same in the US will lose you respect in the eyes of most people except for stupid kids over the internet. Part of it certainly stems from having seen only a handful of black people in their lives while seeing stereotypes galore in the media (one of Chavez's media regulations concerned this. Of course the big opposition stations cried bloody murder on grounds of censorship). Obviously while Che was growing up it was worse.

Revleft is actually doing quite much usage as that, diverting the attention from any real leftist movement. As long as the members are wary and protect their anonymity, the Stormfronters will waste their precious time.

What I've found from my skimming of Stormfront is that they all start with the basic assumption that the "white race" is the ultimate thing to uphold and that any people whose skin is darker than light tan is scum. (I'm sure you all know this.) All of their "discussion" just builds off of that. Their disagreements arise over whether or not all non-whites should be enslaved, killed, or deported. When they agree, their threads just consist of miserable in-jokes that only equally miserable racists can understand.

We, on the other hand, start from all sorts of ideological bases to arrive at our generally "revolutionary leftist" conclusions. It's not because of Trotsky, as one StormFront poster purports, that we always argue about solutions for humanity, but because of the legitimacy of our causes. Stormfront's racist community is easy to unite, seeing as their only ideology is "whites are good, blacks and jews are bad", whereas our philosophies have to do with creating solutions for the people of the world.

I think the thing is that in dealing with people like Stormfront one should try to resist the temptation to ritualistically trade insults. Calling them "fascist scum" and the like may be cathartic but its not going to get us anywhere. The point is that their essential argument does not have a leg to stand on - whatsoever. There is no rational or empircal basis at all for what they are saying. It is a fundamentally a poorly thought out emotional outlook on life which perhaps has its it roots is psychological trauma or material hardships or both.

There is an expression - fighting fire with fire. I actually happen to think that the best way to fight fire is with a substantial dose of water. Facts are facts and there is no getting around them. Fascists revel in and thrive on the drama of a highly charged confrontation. They wither in the face of cold arguments that utterly demolish everything they stand for.

It is difficult, I appreciate, to keep one's head in dealing with the likes of these people. However I can tell you that I personally know of one or two ex fascists who were actually converted to revolutionary socialism precisely because, when they were confronted with the rational case against facsism and racism, they could offer no rational response. They were encouraged to think about , not simply emote. Bit by bit they began to see the folly of their ways.

Do not underestimate them. They are not stupid or powerles. The left can not make a mistake here. As they view themselves as somewhat of a revolutionary movement with the protection of white culture and racial purity and burgeousie dominance as its main aims. These ideals are constantly opposed by the liberal governments we seem to be having these days. They continuously betray these ideals by focussing on capitalist aims of expanding markets and allowing in free labour from non-white immigration and opens gthe doors for an invasion from non-white culture.

Every organisation opposing them is considered to be class and race traitors functioning as an enabler of these left wing policies of these governments.

You also need to realise that they do NOT distinguish much between liberal and revolutionary-left....they are smart enough to realise and, sometimes even, understand and comprehend the world of difference...but see our somewhat similar position towards immigration, anti-discrimination and class solidarity across racial, cultural and ethnic borders as being one and the same.

As such they probably think we are cooperating with them.
