Short Bio
Tryo is an "unplugged" acoustic reggae band made up of three French guitarists and a Latin American percussionist, as well as a producer. In 2006, they celebrated their ten year anniversary. They have produced four studio albums, a double CD live album and two live DVD's. They are popular in Europe, mostly France, as well as Quebec. Their lyrics are often politically charged left-wing commentaries on current events and issues (Iraq, Strikes, the environment, Tibet) and/or popular figures (Charles Pasqua, Jean-Marie Le Pen, George W. Bush).

Ce Que l'On Sème (2008)
While I'm not familiar with their earlier stuff, I certainly would not classify this as reggae per se. They certainly do incorporate elements of this genre but more often they remind me of certain types of world music than reggae proper. In any case, this is really a good album to listen to, however it suggests to me that ideally it should be enjoyed with a romantic partner. It has a very light, adult contemporary feel to it, somewhere between Dave Mathews Band and Manu Chao.
All the lyrics are in French, so I had to use Google translate to figure out what they were saying. One of the things I find most appealing about this band is how they interspersed themes of romance and politics within a single song. A good example of this is on the song "Toi et Moi" ("You and I"), where the lyrics describe various troublesome events in the world and in the middle of it all are "you and I." Other highlights include, "Quand les hommes s'ennuient," "El Dulce de Leche," "Ce que l'on s'aime," and "Jocelyne." However, the song that really gets to me is "Toi et Moi."
Unfortunately for me, I am alone at the time, which prevents me from truly appreciating some of the more romantic themes of this album. Nonetheless, I very much enjoyed it, and recommend it to anyone who might be spending some time with a special someone. It makes for great mood music, but can also be enjoyed loud. Check it out!
Without further ado, here is Tryo with "Toi et Moi"
