The revolution will continue until the demands of the masses are fulfilled

Statement issued by the Communist Party of Egypt
February 1, 2011 -- The moment of truth is approaching. This is the decisive moment for the Egyptian popular forces for change; to topple the Mubarak regime. It seems that the imperialists, and their American masters in particular, are lifting their hands from him after the continuation of revolution everywhere in Egypt.
Today millions emerge to demand the departure of Mubarak. They will prevent all the conspiracies of the dictator and his gang of spies to thwart the revolution and overcome them.
The formation of a committee, which enjoys the confidence of the people and the demonstrators, is crucial to achieve the demands of the political, economic and social revolution, and we emphasise the basic demands presented by the national forces to the deputies of the people's parliament:
1. Dismissal of Mubarak and the formation of a presidential council for a transitional period of limited duration.
2. Forming a coalition government to administer the country during the transitional period.
3. To convene the election of a constituent assembly to draft a new constitution for the country based on the principle of the sovereignty of the nation and ensure the devolution of power within the framework of a democratic just civil state.
4. Prosecute those responsible for hundreds of deaths and injuries of revolutionary martyrs and victims of oppression as well as ensuring the prosecution of those responsible for plundering the wealth of the Egyptian people.
5. Long live the revolution of the Egyptian people

What are these "national forces" they speak of? The Army?

Not sure Staatsfeind, I would think the forces he refers to will mean all institutions of the state, not the Army, I am probably wrong though.

But they say that the national forces present demands, so apparently they already exist? I'm confused whose demands they list there.

That doesn't even mention socialism. This is supposed to be a socialist party?

It is from the Communist Party of Egypt.

I'm still confused, I think zeek's question still stands.

Unless you're trying to say that the CPE has turned into its opposite and is now promoting Capitalism as per dialectics or something

Bro.

I may be misreading it, but I don't think they state their own stance anywhere in this piece, they just reproduce the demands of some group (which I still have no clue of who it is).

What a worthless document. The Egyptian working-class deserves much better than this, and if they haven't already, I hope it makes this party completely irrelevant.

While I agree, what can they do, Class conciousness isnt very high in Egypt, they cannot magic up the conditions, this wave of protests is against a dictator, not capitalism.

The Egyptian communists' approach is terrible, they're just tailing the mass movement rather than trying to give it a communist edge. They should have been building a vanguard among the people long before in anticipation of this Event.. but they still haven't learned and are confining themselves to useless cheerleading of what appears to be the officially recognised opposition forces//
though we dont know much beyond this one document

While I agree, what can they do, Class conciousness isnt very high in Egypt, they cannot magic up the conditions, this wave of protests is against a dictator, not capitalism.i dont know, there's certainly some class consciousness, even if its not formulated in a marxist sense. The people can see the injustice, poverty and whatnot and theyre rebelling against that. What most of them lack is the precise marxist formulation of class struggle; instead directing the rage towards Mubarak and friends in particular and not the entire capitalist class

Its still glorious and inspiring. Just wish there was some socialist leadership.. new political elements seem to be emerging though so who knows

The Lebanese Communist Party has published (http://test1.lcparty.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1283&Itemid=1) a statement by the Communist Party of Egypt (http://egyptian.wordpress.com/), sent from Tahrir Square during the "Million Man March" on February 1, 2011. Below is a basic and unofficial translation by the GPF (Gaza Peace and Freedom) blog (http://gaza-peace-n-freedom.blogspot.com/2011/02/statement-of-egyptian-communist-party.html).

I don't see anything pro-communist or anti-communist about it. But perhaps they just aren't stressing that in this particular statement because this particular statement has other agendas?

Either way, it sounds like expropriations after the revolution are inevitable, considering the fact that mubarak's cronies own a lot of the big industry. Just because they don't state it here it doesn't mean that they don't support it.
